Fished Druridge Bay for the first time today, went down for the 12noon tide. Was about 10.30 ish by the time id set up.

Having not been there before i didnt have a clue where i should or shouldn't fish, tried to read the beach and found what looked like a suitable spot. I also took two rods so i could try different distances and bait.

The wind was hellish, my rod tips were all over the place and bite detection was proving to be difficuilt.

Reeled in a bass after about an hour, didnt even see the knock i was just gonna change my bait. It was caught on the bottom hook of a two hook flapper using rag. Measured in at about 34cm. Was pretty chuffed as its the first bass ive caught :)

Took a plaice at about 12.15, caught on a 2/0, 4/0 pennel using mackerel fillet. Came in at about a lb but it put up a good fight, thought it was gonna be bigger.

As i was baiting back up i noticed a knock on my other rod, reeled in and it was another bass, a bit bigger this time at 38cm, again caught on the the bottom hook of a 2 hook flapper using rag.

Went quite after that, didnt catch anything else. Left at 2.15

Ive never caught a bass but its always baffled me why ya see little schoolies on the fish counter at asda when the limit is 41...... Any ideas anyone:confused: congrats on your catch anyway mate

cos them fish dont come from the english coast.

well done on the bass

plus the min size for a bass is 36cm So nee harm in taking them.

Well done on the Bass mate. Druridge is a lovely venue too. I'm not having a go, but I hope no-one with a big gill-net reads your report! They like to sweep up the Bass as soon as they know where they are (or so I've been told)
Good report all the same. I bet they tasted superb.

Aye, have to admit like i kept them, but i know for future, cheers.

Well done on the fish mate. It is a good idea to keep a list of minimum sizes handy for anything you are not sure of.

Thing with Bass as well is they don't get to breeding until they are around 41cms plus. To get to that size will take them about 4 or 5 years. If you want to keep catching them it's worth putting the small ones back.

Nice Bass!

Nice Bass!

Well done on a couple of Bass. Nice to see a couple still knocking about at this time of year. I've had them out earlier. I might have to pop down to my local spot to try my hand.
