how do i get on to the road that goes from the visitor centre back towards cresswell,it runs right along sand dunes,if i go from the cresswell end past the icecream shop the road comes to a dead end then when i look on google maps it starts again a short way past the dead end,theres a road that looks like it goes down to there if i turn in at the widdrington arms pub but tried it and it turns into a mud path,ive tried turning in at the sign for chevington nature reserve but thats a dead end to,anyone know were i turn in to get on this road

If your driving from south to north along the a1068 take the first right after the right turn to the country park (if that makes any sence) this should take you to the road along the beach

The 'road' that runs south along the dunes from near the visitors' centre isn't a road. It used to be the old coal road, but when the sites there were restored it was turned into a footpath/bridleway.

There is a section of the old coal road still there, running from behind the Widdrington Inn to Chibburn Mouth, but it's a private road, belonging to the farmer. The section of it running south from the burn mouth is also a public footpath, but from where it turns inland toward Widdrington it's not public.

It's possible to walk or cycle all the way along the bay, but you can't drive it. The section south of the burn mouth and the section between Bondicarr and Hauxley are barred to traffic.

The closest place you can park to the burn mouth is at the end of the track at East Chevington nature reserve.

The road that Steve mentions is the one that runs down to Hadston Carrs and south to just behind the visitors' centre, where it is blocked to traffic.
