After a wee session at Blyth Beach the other day, I went up to Druridge tonight and, on the recommendation of Simon at Lewis's in Whitley, had a few hours fishing at the north end - near Hadston Carrs.
Was trying for bass but the sea was totally flat so only expected undersize flounders. Beautiful evening/night. Rag and mackerel bait. Short casts..... Managed a 1lb flounder and two wee ones before dusk... AND THEN as the light faded I ignored my bass rod that was just 15-20yards out with three hooks on.... reeled in, it felt like a decent flatty, then I saw a good flounder on the top hook, BUT something was flying through the shallows on the bottom hook... Took the line in my hand and carefully pulled it through the last wave. The flounder escaped but who cares..... a 3lb 2oz Turbot on the bottom hook, fat as anything, thrashing around. Well chuffed. Nice surprise.
(Photos are a bit blurry but will try to post them from computer later)
