dunstanbrugh castle

hi bud, there certainly are conger in and around dunstanburgh rock edges as many will tell you, theres even been a couple caught over this last past winter the mackerel tend to shoal around the castle point best around july, august, and into september, however you may pick a few up earlier if they are in good numbers try float fishing for them it can be great sport on light gear, spinning or the old daylight tactics are also very good with the added chance of a good pollack or coaly. if its the conger you fancy a half side of fresh mackerel is hard to beat through the summer months they also get taken on crab by mistake from time to time. hope this helps you a little regards korky..

Its great up there in summer just carry light as its a good trek from the car. :)

as previously stated conger are present, personally i'd take a seperate rod for that as sport may be very slow if your specifically targeting conger. make sure you take plenty of sinkers as the ground up there is seriously hard. spinning with single lures can pick up decent pollck, coalies as well as makerel. float fishing single large ragworm can get decent wrasse which are great sport on light gear. with it being such a long walk I'd go geared up with 3 or 4 rods for different tactics to maximise your chances.

I would second what Dave has said. I would never go there with just the one rod. If that one rod was to snap, and I've been there and seen it happen to a lad, your knackered and all you've got for your troubles is a nice walk. The lad in question was kind of lucky? It was durring the summer so he had a spinning rod with him.
