Fished the evening tide at the Castle yesterday hoping to add to my species list for this year. Three species I set out to target, first Pollack, then Wrasse and my banker the Mackeral....or so I thought!!!

A lovely evening for it and within a few chucks of the spinner, species number one was caught, a decent Pollack, get in there!

Pleased as punch I carried on with the spinner taking a few Coalfish up to 1lb but there wasn't a sniff of a Mackeral, so I changed tactics and dropped some freelined crab down the side of a deep looking rock face. Another Pollack! Spoiled today I thought.

Loads of nibbles and tiddlers later I had a typical Wrasse bite, bang, bang and the rod tip arched over. Species number two on board, great stuff.

Not the biggest I've ever caught, but a beautiful looking fish and my first Bad boy Ballan of the year.

I tried unsuccesfully for a Mackeral until the light began to fade but managed two new species this year and as they say two out of three ain't bad. Plenty time for Mackeral still.

I couldn't resist a couple of pics of the mark and general area as it's a cracking place to fish.........but take a pedal bike if you can and of course take your rubbish home!

The Dunstanburgh ledge. Normally great for Mackeral at it's lower point and decent for Pollack and Coalies with the odd Wrasse from the high cliff, it goes without saying though that the utmost care is needed when fishing here.

The Castle and grounds, from inside, not a lot to see really but a nice place to visit anyway.

Was out on Bon Ami week or so back and noticed the cliff Dave. Looks a canny spot but it is a hell of a hike form the village-good idea the mountain bike.
Oh and well done on the fish mate.

I fished that spot for the first time last Sunday and was really impressed hoping to get back soon well done on the catch Dave lovely looking fish:)

pleased you mentioned the rubbish thing I collected 3 carrier bags of line, cans, food rappers etc it only took 10 mins when the big rod was out just a shame it has to be done if it fits in the bag full it'll fit empty but not all think the same unfortunatley:mad:
 
WELLDONE jv some good fish there ,any rock marks can be very slippery when wet so be careful with maybe some forcast of rain
 
Have heard before dont think the national trust like people to use bikes on that stretch upto castle,dont know what sort of authority they have or if it is just their policy.I know a couple of lads were warned last week.
 
Nice report, was fishing the beach at Embleton and saw a people on the ledges, nice to see you were catching. Putting a report on for the beach.
 
Would of thought the land from Craster/Embleton to the castle isn't English Heritage/National Trust Land but you never know.If it isn't can't see how they can dictate to the general public with regards to what you can and can not do on a public (right of way) footpath. Its once you go through or over the gate/fence boundary they would then have the power. Most surprised they haven't started asking anglers/fly tippers for the entrance fee, charged to any other visitor to the castle and its grounds.Money raised could be put to employing a full time litter picker.
 
Not really sure regarding the legality of biking around this stretch of coast to be honest, since the parking taliban double yellow lined the whole of Craster, I now park to the North of the castle at Dunstan Steads and bike from there, never had any bother as yet!

I don't bike on the castle grounds though as that would be asking for trouble.

Never really had any problems parking within Craster village.Nearly always park outside the houses overlooking the harbour that takes you to the first gate,and if not there and theres room to do so on the north harbour wall side by the crab pots.
On the one occasion I've had a lady come out to say "Did I not see the sign residents parking only".I asked if she lived there"No" was the reply,so your not a resident therefore I'm not in your parking space. A fair enough point/arguement to make I thought.
Went to park at Dustan Steads once didn't like all the car glass that covered the surface,bad sign. If push comes to shove I would opt for Embelton Golf Club car park or the road leading to the club.
 
It was me and a friend got told to push are bikes by the national trust lady who had drove her jeep half way down the path. It does say on the gate at craster to push bikes, but what harm are you doing everyone that was on the path told us to ignore her and just to ride they were shocked we were told to push them. We would'nt of rode through the castle but the path leading up to it dont see why they have that rule but she can drive her jeep along i know that would do more damage to the path or a person than a push bike would. We only took the bikes to save walking from craster ended up pushing the bikes there rode back she was gone when we left.
 
its just petty nonsense really to make a fuss because people like making a fuss, was at my local pub the other night sat outside having a few drinks and we popped over to the chippy and came back to eat them outside with our drinks that we had bought from the pub. 2 mins later someone came out sayin we couldnt eat our chips there, even though we were paying customers. some people just like being sour and we can only feel sorry for them :D
 
the warden at the castle lets anglers through for nowt all you do is give him the nod.... normal tourists still have to pay... but no doubt if the litter problem gets worse they could start to charge if they wanted to... which would probably put some anglers off fishing the mark..
every time i fish up there i always bring a carrier bag of rubbish off the mark and put it in the bin which every angler passes on the way out of the gates..

it would be a shame to lose free access to a good mark through the laziness of some anglers..

the fella in the hut is very freindly and knows ya off fishing just give him the time of day and not be ignorant as going threw and will say any problems he is there to help he will say just let ya self threw or over the gate when closed
