Thirteen Adults, which included a new female member, and two juniors fished this pegged comp between 11am and 3pm at the British Airways Carpark on the Tyne in bright sunshine and brisk wind, using SAMF catch measure and release method. 18cm or above.
Most anglers were into the fish from the off on the rising tide, with both Stevie Elliot and Pete Chadwick both pulling out a 37 cm Flounder apiece within minutes apart. Most anglers thought these two fish would be sharing the longest fish prize, WRONG, within minutes Jason Pool, father of last comp winner Josh, managed to tempt a cracking 44cm Flounder out on rag worm and mackerel bait.
As the tide began to slow, so did the bites, with only the odd fish landed.
As the tide began to drop, the bites again picked up with Sevie (Mr Tyne) Elliot, again into the fish throughout the remainder of the Comp.
Mick Dunn, who had struggled for most of the Comp, managed to find a double shot of decent flounder on the last cast, moving him up the honours list, but alas not high enough.
Apart from the cracking prize winning flounder, a rare 28 cm Smelt was caught by Derek Sirret, and yes, they do smell of cucumber.
A canny day in the Sun, with the rain arriving minutes after the end.
