Ten adults and one junior member fished this Comp on Hendon Prom on a cold, wet Saturday afternoon in probably ideal sea conditions.
All anglers took up positions around the "bandstand" area of the prom with very little water at the start, but the big tide soon pushed in, bringing in some nice rollers, and plenty of colour.
Things looked promising for some nice fish, alas this failed to materialise.
The comp started at noon, with high tide around 4pm at the end of the Comp.
Any fish over 18cm were to be recorded and scored using the SAMF scoring chart, with all fish to be returned.
Things started slowly until young Thomas Woodcock 10yrs reeled in a double shot of a small tommy and a Rockling, putting him on the score sheet and into the lead.
From that point on, Thomas was the only angler to really trouble the scorer with a selection of small tommys, rocklings and a whitey.
Not bad for the youngster who with only a handful of sessions under his belt, was baiting up, casting and landing all on his own.
Ian Ainsley found a few size flounder but couldnt reach Young Thomas.
Incident of the day was when Ian managed to hook into a nice fish, which he thought was a good doubler, after managing to eventually get it to the side of the Prom, it was seen to be a nice codling of between 5-6lb and had been pulled in sideways with a hook in its back,it was about to landed, when Mick "butterfingers" Dunn got hold of Ian's shock leader stating " I WILL LIFT IT" well one pull from Mick's sausage fingers resulted in the fish heading back into the drink quicker than a Tom Daley belly flapper.
Mick, yer a marked man!!!
Only thing that made up for the fish was Young Thomas's smile as he accepted his cash prize and the honour of first place. Who says distance, best bait and skill takes the prizes. NOT THOMAS.
RESULT.
1st. Thomas Woodcock 10yrs. 7 fish for 58pts
2nd Ian Ainsley. 4 fish for 54pts
3rd Kev Woodcock. 4 fish for 44pts
4th David Woodcock. 2 fish for 28 pts
5th Alan Lunn. 2 fish for 25pts
6th Mick " I will shake it off" Dunn 1 fish for 13pts
7th Simon Cutter. 1 fish for 11 pts
Remaining anglers blanked including Mel Anderson who retained the "El BLANCO" Mexican hat.
