Like a bairn with a new toy I couldn't wait to try out me new rod and reel. Actualy the rod was bought on e-bay, but it is in very good 'nick'. It's a Centurt Tip Tornado ultralite. The reel is a new Penn 515, and I loaded it up with 15lbs line with a 60lb tapered leader. Got to the beach on low water this morning (10.30 am). Wind was moderate se with a nice bit of surf building.
Despite the awkward side wind the rod and reel cast a 4ozs lead smoothly and wiith ease. First couple of casts.....nothing at all. Then I got small bite which resulted in a cracking Dab of 1lb. Quite pleased with that but better was to come. Couple of casts later Igot a real slammer of a bite, and a few minutes later I landed a Bass of exactly 3lbs. Next cast caught another bass, just under 1.5 lbs. Was running out of bait, but on my last cast, I got another bite but lost the fish in the surf (Ithink it was a small schoolie). So well chuffed with the rod, the reel and my catch I packed up after a very enjoyable 3 hors fishing.
Can't wait to get out again !

Sea was picking up all the time, and the wind was quite fresh by the time I left. Should be some good fishing tonight.
To be honest though I've had a few bass from this beach even when there hasn't been much surf. as long as you can 'suss out' where the holes and gullies are, and you DON'T need a huge cast, though sometimes this helps if you know there is a gully or hole at range.

That's a fact mate, know where your fishing, the sea was starting to lift about 11am when I was out bait digging, not far away from where you were !
