Easter Weekend..crew needed

:D
I was up at loch sunart last september for my honeymoon, cracking place.
We ended up getting a boat from Andy Jackson (i think).
Did a bit of fishing and went to see the seal colony, had a great time.
Said I would go back with my own boat to do some proper fishing, hopefully this summer.

I wouldn\'t rush back up for the fishing.. it was hammered by Long liners just before Christmas and again just after.. on the first visit they took over 3000 Spurdog plus Skate and thornies :(

Thats a shame that mate :( . Man just can\'t help but spoil things.

It\'s a cracking little flatie you\'ve got their mind :P , i\'d need a few months in the gyym before I tried that :D

Nice fish Dave. I can feel the pain in my back just looking at it. If there had been a tide running, I think you could have still been trying to haul it in.

Hiya,

Mark.. yes they were in the Loch it\'s self, there were a couple of guy\'s up fishing the loch 2 weeks ago that really know it well.. all they managed for their efforts was a few doggies :(

Mike.. It\'s the hardest fighting Skate I\'ve had in 15 years of fishing for them.. I\'m just glad they don\'t all fight like her :)

hmmnn, my guess is there\'s a boat out of tobermory that can be less than moralistic in pursuit of a few quid, and will have a go at anything, saw them scallop dredging last year in the middle of the night in sanna bay itself, which can\'t of tuurned up much for them as its only 30 foot deep, and then within yards of the shore all the way along the north side of the peninsula

bit of a bugger though, be interesting to see if they\'ve left me anything for next week!

Hiya,
nah mark it wasn\'t local boats.. The culprit was the \"Apollo\" out of Grimsby, this was the boat I shadowed on the Sound a couple of years back and it\'s also the boat that hammered Etive a few years back.

Seems the weather forcast for the weeknd is looking much better. Hoping to break the 200lb barrier this time Davy :D and perhaps filling in a few more missing species.

Oblikta, you have a pm ..tried to phone you but the number just cuts off.

Codfather, its a long tow but worth it. One nice thing about the place is you will get out fishing in just about any conditions due to the sheltered nature. Ok you may not be able to get out in the sound itself but there is always Loch Aline itself for thornies which is like a boating lake or the channel for pollock (take a fly rod) but watch out for the ferry. The fishings good, the facilities are excellent and the locals are friendly, but the advice to pack a tent is a good hint as accomodation can be hard to find at times.

Looks like my Easter plans are cancelled in favour of a trip to the loch with Dave and I\'m getting more exited by the minuet

One snag tho\'..............frozen mackeral needed

If anybody has any spare I\'d be willing to pay for them and mega mega grateful

Or anyone know if any of the shops have got any left?

morisson\'s have been getting fresh mackeral back in recently - go on a friday to buy it, little known fact bout most supermarkets take there fish stock in on thursday nights, so friday\'s always the freshest

wsn\'t too baad actually, quid odd a pound,

I bought some last week from Morrisons and I think it was about £3.30 a kilo

I\'ll make time to have a good rummage through the merchants on N/Shields Quay.

I\'ve got about a dozen frozen macky you can have mate, i wont be needing anymore before the fresh macky come in.
I dont want anything for them.
They are gutted with the heads off.
I live in ryhope, Sunderland
Let me know if you need them

cheers
Homer

Looks like we have a trip on after all :D
Graham...the web links I was on about are
www.catchalot.co.uk
and www.onyermarks.co.uk
The first one has a load of info on skate and rigs etc and belongs to Davy Holt. The second one is for a charter skipper who runs an annual trip up there and we will be meeting no doubt...will give you an idea of what can be caught :)

I gave up on the pictures but I have a video online that I took while fishing on davy\'s boat last July with mine moored alongside. Nothing was edited and the only pause was to move my boat so a fish could be landed, and to find a coat cos my camera was getting wet. Its over 300mb so if you are on dial up forget it I will post you the dvd it will be quicker. It certainly gives an idea of what skate fishing is all about and many thanks to davy for letting me film it.

That was the most memorable 1/2 hr of my life
Lets hope we get some more of that this weekend:)

Graham, just been down the quay, Riverview fisheries have fresh mackeral in £1.50 per lb. Be quick the easter hoardes are down there already.

Thanks for that Kieth...got sorted at redcar...head on and ungutted at 3.31 /kg...order placed ...just need to get down and pick em up. I think Graham is on his way down the fish quay as I type.

Just had a weather report for the area...force 8 and charter called off today but forcasted to drop tomorrow afternoon and decent for the weekend. Lets hope there right for once.

Got to admit to getting a wee bit excited now. Lets hope we have some good pics to post on our return. Main worry is the boat trailer, was supposed to be fitted monday but the company STILL haven\'t got it in stock and they shut at 5pm for the weekend :(

Sorted for bait now lads but thanks for the help. Riverview fisheries only had 2 stone and they were gone when I got down there. Got sorted in Tescos for £1.30 per lb and they\'re nice and fresh
