Easterlies

Why do people get excited over easterlies every year.

Total pain in the a**e imo, theres no where to fish thats sheltered and it knocks the fishing on the head imo, much prefer south easterlies or northerly

Personally at this time of year I'd much prefer either westerlies or even better nice calm sunny conditions and no wind at all.

Cod season is as good as over, time to take the goggles off and look forward to some excellent spring / summer fishing starting with the Plaice and early Pollock, Dogfish, even a few Raymonds kicking about. All of which is knackered by the water getting stirred up and not being able to get on the piers :(

Theres a canny sea rolling in at Shields beach, ideal if it was Sept/Oct/Nov but not what we need at this time of year.

Nice calm seas lads so the sea can warm up and become nice and clear so the fish become more active and we can all get our lures out :)

Canny sea on at cullercoats I'd be changing my plans if it were winter

just don't get this end of the season the cod have all dissipated and there is no point trying to fish for them, best sesh i have ever had from the shore was in late may, warm evening with a nice south easterly sea running i managed 13 fish to 9 1/2 lbs and my mate had 17 fish to 8lbs, better than any winter sesh i have had in over 40 years of winter fishing.

Was out at Seaham today. The pier this side of the gates.
Waves were really rolling over the end of the pier so that was off limits.

Bob C was already there and despite all the cries of woe on here he managed a good session with 3 decentish cod, all keepable.

Myself?
Blanked and lost 4 leads but you know what? On todays result I think I'll be there again tomorrow.
Just hope the lightning keeps off.

Here's Bob's catch:

There are more fish in the sea than cod, I think that is the point (it was certainly mine)

was fishing the blocks a few year ago like and in the middle of summer and got 2 coddies on successive chucks, one 2lb and one 4lb, looked fresh too, never happened since like. Plaice are the target for me now:)

you are dead right there steward and deffo agree with you totally, i was just trying to say that it,s not only winter that you can catch cod, i have just as much fun when i'm fishing in the summer catching mackerel on light tackle, cod fishing is not the be all and end all of sea angling there is much more to it than that, to hook a fish at any time of the year and you are not quite sure what it is, is always heart stopping [at least it is for me]

My point was easterlies are a pain, the fishing is never that good during an easterly and theres absolutely nowhere to fish without getting your a**e kicked off it

I certainly hope so. Just starting again after 19yrs. been looking for a newbie section but can't find one. Fishing harbour view at South Shields tomoro and will be over the moon with an Eel, coalie or codling :red:

Sat on cullnose point last night. Sea was huge. Wind was wild off the sea for the 1st time in months so I was looking forward to getting out and getting a sizeable cod in what looked like ideal water. As it turns out it was pointless being there but I like the elements so found a rock and made it my own. Blanked.... which isn't surprising. Could have a submarine on my line and I wouldn't have known, even with braid.

Passed 3 anglers as we arrived just before dark and they had all blanked too.

Easterlies

the reason people favour easterly winds ia because they bring the fish in, but don't fish during the windy weather, go as soon as the wind drops, unfortunately at this time of year there's not much doing

There's still the chance of a few fish. Roll on the settled weather is what I say. Nowt better than catching a few fish with the sun on your back.

easterly's r ideal over this end 4 places around hadston, hauxley & amble but not so much this time of year but even better 4 the razor getting washed up with the seacoal, hit it right & u can fill a bucket with razor & sacks of coal lol.

yes easterlys are the right seas to get bait washed up especialy jan and feb.

but i find as original post it can be an awkward wind to fish in.

personaly i think we are luck up here cod/codling fishing all year round best table fish for eating imo, and had some great sessions in the past during april with fresh or frozen crab.

yes u r rite m8 most places do get awkward 2 fish on big easterly's but we r lucky really with the marks i posted in my above post, these marks can still b fished on a big sea because they have offshore reefs & islands that act as a buffer & makes them comfortable 2 fish in a easterly sea.
yes john m8 jan-feb best time 4 bait but i missed out this year 2 much on but wont go with out crab will b starting 2 show soon.
