eel

thanks lads, fishingfanatastico pointed me to a website that sort of makes me think its an eelpout. handsome isnt it.

Viviporous Blenny (aka Eel-pout). Seem to be another one of those species that comes and goes, getting loads some years and very few others. I remember pulling them out of the Harbour at Blyth constantly in the mid 80's.

if it had big teeth it could be a cat fish.

I think you're thinking of Wolf Fish mate, sometimes called Rat Fish as the teeth look like a rats. They're thicker bodied and grey coloured, not seen any from the shore here but seen them off the boats once in a while, far bigger than a Blenny.

The wolfish is in the same family as a blenny, the difference is it can get up to 8 feet long!
