Well I set off nice and early this morning , got to the marina about 6am and was fishing behind Coquet island by 6.30am. As usual so far this year there was nothing doing there so I set off south in search of fish.
With Normans words of wisdom ringing in my ears I decided on short drifts and quick moves till I found some fish.
I picked a spot just south of the island and dropped a set of baited lures over the side , the lead hit the bottom and bang , a five pound cod was in the fish box shortly afterwards.
Normans words were still telling me to move on if another fish didn't come in the next drift or two , but every drift or second drift produced a cod or a scotchie for a good couple of hours .
The tide slackened and heeding Norman I set off for a wreck about three miles out , a charter boat was leaving just as I arrived , dropped my line over the side , lead hit the bottom and bang another codling :)
Two more drifts of this wreck without a take saw me set off for Creswell skeres , another wreck on the way there produced nothing for three drifts and the skeres were not fishing well either.
With the tide about to run again I motored back up to the early morning spot and was instantly into the fish again.
I ran out of bait by 2pm and spent half an hour filleting cod before heading back to the marina.
The weather was exactly what had been forcast , westerlies swinging north and eventually into the east , but never very strong and the sea was beautifully flat all day.
All I can say is

Norman Rocks !!
cheers Norman :)
