Phoed Barny last night an said we were fishing today , he was buzzin :D Went to pick him up this morning at 7.30 and he was still buzzin , but asked me about the wind ....... "What wind ?" I answered and put him in the car and off to the marina.
It was blowing a bit when we got there so we put the kettle on and sat a while having a brew and waiting for the cill to cover with enough water to get out (that was my excuse anyway )
Soon I got bored with waiting an we set off down the river at about 9 oclock , once out of the piers it was evident it was going to be a test of our balance for the rest of the day but we headed south regardless.
Warlord was on her way to the skeers and we crossed behind her and watched her on her way as we set about working out the drift over the northern hill , it was fast :D
First drift was all to pot and went no where near where I wanted and I don't think we had a take , but working out from the track on the plotter I set the boat up to drift where I wanted and hey presto , cod galore:)
Barny was in his element , he couldn't believe how many fish we were catching and the smile on his face had me in stitches all day.
I fished shds all day , barney fished baited rigs most of the day , I was besting him 2-1 , later in the day he messed hgis terminal tackle up and I passed him my rod with the shad on and showed him how to fish it ...... two drops and two fish later he's telling me not to put a rig on his rod but set it up with a shad , he's now 100% converted.
The fish were piling up and so was the wind and the waves , but every time one of our rods bent into another fish we looked at each other and said "wind? what wind? " and giggled like little school girls.
It was a terrific day out , very tiring in the conditions , but having barny along for company was a pleasant change , I like fishing alone , but I enjoyed today immensly.
Wicked Jack steamed up towards us and shouted over if we were catching  :D , they were too within a few minutes .

the last pic (assuming they are here at all ) is the reason we had to make little detour on the way home from a great day out.

blue shads did the buisness for us today too..

great report, nice boat too........

I've just noticed where his thieving little fingers are in that picture :D , told me he was sorting out his rigs :D
I started with sidewinders in blue , green and mackerel changing colours as they got chewed up , tried a big orange shad without much success and then went on to the big blue shads being assaulted by barnys mitts in the picture ........ they worked a treat and produced a better stamp of fish.

excellent report Ray,I think it's maybe time to stop talking about shads .... before we "loose our edge" :) :) :)

great reading and pics , as ever ...... shame about the bus :o

Too late now Norman, everyone is turning into shadaholics, and shad stocks will plummet :D;)

They have their place , but they are not the be all and end all , today was perfect conditions for shad fishing , nice fast drift across the tide , get the wind and tide in the wrong combination and they are useless , horses for courses ;).

Spot on Ray, is that the new ELEDA all bedded in now? How are you finding her and whats your consumption like?

Cheers,

Graham.

Hi Graham , she is being lifted a week on thursday for a 20 hour service on the engine , once that's done and she's back in the water it will be all systems go :)
She is growing on me , I wasn't sure at first if I'd done the right thing buying her , I did a cracking deal on a new arvor 215 with the mercruiser engine and to be honest at the time that would have been my preferred boat , a trip to the boat show with the wife changed all that and the deal was changed to the merry fisher 645. (same dealer)
I nearly bought a merry fisher marlin 6 , but again the wife put me off that one as well . She loved the style and layout of the 645 and said it would be far more suitable for family outings and I could still fish from it , I agreed and the rest is history.
Like I say , she is growing on me , I'm not one for going out with a boat full of anglers , I like to fish alone a lot and occasionally with a mate or guest , she's ideal for two anglers , and very , very comfortable to relax in between bouts of cod hauling :D She handles a sea well and has masses of power available with the 115 outboard which is a big plus over the arvor , particularly now that diesel is no longer a cheap fuel.
So far I've not noticed a great deal of difference in running costs between this boat and the last one other than the petrol costs a lot more now than it did then for the same amount. Maybe when I'm travelling further afield it might show more?
I'm still working out where to put stuff and keep things etc , I made a table for all the fishing tackle , but I've taken it out tonight and rearranged things again , I'll get it the way I want it over time , mean time I'm just looking forward to getting out more as the weather hopefully improves.
I'm still getting used to having the plotter out of sight when I'm fishing , I could virtually watch the fish take my lures on the plotter on the explorer , I'm guessing how far I've drifted now which is not ideal , I'm thinking of getting an ipad with a navionics chart on to watch from the cockpit , or maybe another plotter set up there , or maybe I'll just get used to it , we'll see;)
Anyway ........... I'm loving it ! :D:D:D

Thanks for the reply Ray, I will catch up at the marina soon, flight details are in and I am home on Friday morning! Fishing as soon after as senior management(the Missus) allows!:)

She seems to be the perfect boat for yourself! I know you will have asked yourself all the questions that are buzzing around my head at the minute;

Outboard or conventional shaft?I want to keep away from sterndrive, too many moving parts submerged in salt water prone to seizing for my liking!
Diesel or Petrol?
How restricitive is Amble Cill with a deeper draught and should we move to Royal Quays? ( I love Amble but Micky is erring towards RQ!)
Any swell from the North around to just South of East and you struggle to get out of Amble= again Amble or RQ?

Plus a time scale to throw in the mix as well as my missus is pregnant with number four so I have to buy a bigger boat soon-ish that will last a few years as I can see a lot of expense ahead with the offspring!

The clear favourite at the minute is the Arvor 215as which would probobly mean a move too if Amble was too restrictive. Do you know who's the Arvor 215as in there is as he may be a wealth of info regarding the cill restrictions with this draught?
As well by the time you strap your electrics on the Marlin 6 they are the same price as the 215as's?

It's all a bit fuzzy!

See you and Dave down South this weekend;) if I am allowed!:)

Cheers,

Graham.

Graham, fished south Sunday with michael and had 72 fish, no pollack yet mind, and got a right chewing with the wind. Was talking to Mickey earlier in the week and he seemed to have a good day fishing roughly the same area.See you back soon.
