Well , my mate and I had a lie in and arrived at the marina shortly before low tide and set off down towards Cresswell , stopped off at Northern Hill and were into fish from the first drop , no rag available at Amble tackle shop so while I used squid tipped hokkais my mate was using unbaited hokkais.
The unbaited hokkais were outfishing the baited ones hands down
When the tide slackened off completely we headed out to a wreck and took a fish from there first drop but it was hard work compared to the hard ground fishing so we set off back to the skeres , fish came steadily all day , the best being an 8lb pollack to my mates unbaited hokkais.
A brisk westerly all day made for an unusual angle to the drift , but it didn't put the fish off and we came home with enough fish to satisfy the hungry hoards of friends and neighbours that are always on the look out for a free meal :)
Great day out , looking forward to the next one , whenever that may be.

The pollack was taken on a hokkai rig , my mate snagged bottom and pulled for a break , the line gave and immediately tightened again ........ "it's a fish" he says , you can imagine the fight it put up with no lead on the line , I kept telling him to take his time or he'd pull the hooks, but he isn't the most delicate of anglers and I thought he was going to lose it a couple of times when it bored downwards, we had a huge range of sizes of fish from coalies no bigger than the hokkais to the big pollack , the biggest cod was about 4-5 lb , a great day out.

nice one ray, great catch especially with an early season big pollack.

We found today that rag in general was the best bait but to be honest it was closely followed by "Nothing but lure" so maybe all those nice crabby things were a bit OTT

Great report Ray,

A good Pollack as well early on! I have got three more weeks and six days(not that I am counting!) of no fishing at work so leave some fish for me!
