Had a couple of hours out today ,met Duncan who was pretending to work hard on Warlord  and after a few minutes craic about where the fish were I left the marina sometime after 10am and headed straight out to the 6 mile mark to plot a couple more wrecks and see what was about.
I marked the wreck up on the plotter and after a few aborted drifts which seemed to be going in a different direction every time I sent down a pirk , and up came a coalie :) , sent it back down a couple more times and caught some more coalie , thought to myself , put a string of daylights on and catch a few at a time and the fight will be good as they were knocking 2lb each, so down went a string of daylights and up came a string of Mackerel , yes mackerel on the 20th of November , thought they were summer fish:confused:
Anyway , don't like catching too many mackerel so the daylights came off and the solitary pirk went back down , up came a 4lb cod , followed by another the same size and then a gurnard:)
It was a tad bumpier out at 6 miles than it was inshore , but with the soft southerly breeze and the sun shining and cod, mackerel, coalies and a gurnard coming over the side it certainly didn't feel like November , I was back in by 2.30pm and had marked another wreck up on my plotter in the meantime.
All in all a nice couple of hours afloat :)

Great report Ray :), You'll be logging that one in as the "Species Wreck", the further North, the better the weather by the sound of it, well done on the catch :)

Spot on Ray, if you need a semi skilled Deck Hand over the next couple of months drop me a line! I am home on December the 15th!;)

Graham.

we were out about 2 miles off Blyth yesterday and caught mackerel too! :s Only managed 1 decent cod and a haddock on top of that, but it was a cracking day out! More like Spring than winter! :)

It was my sisters fella who caught it and he got it on a simple unbaited pink feather/tinsel lure, believe it or not. I caught one last year whilst bait fishing around Whitley Bay, but can't remember what bait it was I used. :s

We didn't know it was a haddock when I first caught one last year but a few people in the harbour identified it for us. Quite deeper in shape than a cod and with a red tint.

Great to see a catch report Ray, and congrats on the variation of species. Mackerel and marzipan for Christmas dinner:rolleyes: hmmmmm
