Well,
Theres no better way to blow away a few cobwebs than go to sea. I had arranged to meet Cocomonkey at the royal quays at 11.30 to give time for the blood/alcohol ratio to get within a reasonable limit.
Foggy, rain and wind but high hopes for the day.
When we left on 31st the sea was dropping off nicely and the evening news had forecast a slight sea state.....oh how wrong can they be.
We were told that I have the honour of being the last person into the royal quays in 07 and the first person out in 08.
We headed down river to be met by huge (2mtr + )swells coming straight into the entrance of the piers. I had planned to nip round to just north of the north pier, think is called King Edwards beach or summat like that. But a quick foray about 50 metres outside the piers soon had me changing the plan and we anchored instead just north of the south pier opposite that gate thats half way along.
With squid, black lug, crab and mussel as bait we were hopefull but I would have prefered to get out where I was yesterday. To put it bluntly it was carp!!
5 coalies and a small codling was all we had to show, with the codling coming at the last chuck about 1/2 hour after dark as the tide started to pick up.
Only other intresting thing was a seal about 150 yards off the fish quay. First time I have seen one actually inside the river. I wonder how the guys fishing the fish quay were getting on
The slight mistake I made was to leave about ten packets of black lug on the boat in my cool bag...what a waste...but when I got home and explained to the mrs how expensive it is she suggested I could go back and get it tomorrow...now theres a thought
Cheers
Dave
