Phill these are called clip down rigs and used to enable you to protect your bait and also help you to cast further by cutting down on wind resistance.

That's the idea mate, as soon as it hits the water it releases the weight from the hook and they separate.

cool.. the guy i saw the other day was just clipping sraight into the loop on his weight. is the a good idea or should i be getting some proper clips?

come to think of it some of my breakaways have a kinda hook on them,, thats what there for then lol

Get proper clips m8. It's alright putting your hook thru the hole on the weight but the chances of it releasing when it hits the water is pretty small.

i use these on most of my pully rigs

they have a built in bait clip and i have never had one back in still clipped down the way it got chucked out.
