Fished the church beach over low water, very slow but managed a spurdog just over 4lb and a gurnard. Very dissapointing. Trying my original venue again in the morning. Just grabbing a couple of hours sleep then up at 2-30am again. Confident of not getting bit off this time using 150lb mono, the tackle shop in oban had no wire or heavy braid !!! Had my eyes taken out for the mono as well £8-50 for 100m of 150lb mono. But i had no choice just had to bite the bullet. It should do the job i suppose though far from ideal.

Mickey, I switched to heavy mono from wire for conger in Ireland and had no problems. It doesn't kink and lasts a while as long as you keep checking and change it as soon as you see damage. Used 100lb and never been bitten through yet. You should be ok with that.

Mind you I pay £7.50 - £8 so not that much more.
