get out practising with ya multi and a friend who uses one before ya go fishing mate, ya dont want first cast to turn into an almighty birds nest, get used to it first

Yeah no worries bud, I will be putting in the practice on the beach just casting with it on boxing day hopefully. I don't have anyone to come along with me who uses a multi, my son is also getting his multi for xmas so we will be out practising with the reels before any thoughts of fishing with them.

Thanks again Jimmy.

Top man Jimmy thank you for the offer and I may take you up on it, however we are gonna practise until we master it which we will do, no matter how many nests we create lol.

just remember when you get your reels at x mas to check the brakes / mags are on full before you start to practice, and a nice smooth cast, dont jerk it, yous will be fine mate

If you get a mag reel make sure the mags are in as a mate of mine bought a mag reel NEW and the mags werent in

Oh thanks for the heads up David I never thought nothing of the mags I assumed they would be in already, I will defo check when I get it. Thanks again lads for all the info I really appreciate it, if in the new year you see a guy struggling to cast more than 2ft it's probably me. :D

Tight lines lads.

Im sure you will both pick it up fine, if not straight away then in a pretty short time, its like anything else (I wont say like riding a bike..........)
You have been given some excellent advice here already and am sure you will do a lot more reading & watching vids before xmas.

Remember anyone can get a nest or snap off from time to time too, tho the majority of times are due to other underlying reasons (a microscopic chip in a tip eye springs to mind!).
What u got to loose other than some cheap mono!

Think safety first especially with the lad with you & to keep your distance while the other is casting, preferably standing to the rear and off to the opposite side of casting arc.

Also dont expect to be able to outcast your fixed spool distance with a multi, that could take a lot longer and its not guaranteed, then again I dont know how far you can cast with a f/s. I say this as I have seen a certain guy on sheids pier who can blast past me with a f/s and I can acheive some semi-respectable distances with a multi. (I just need to get myself another good casting rod instead of my current dinasaur!)

You wanna see me try n cast with a fixed spool tho, that will give u a laugh!

No bother mate just a nesecary point as it can be a common problem
Good luck mate see u on the pier sometime
