Extra grip

Right lads what I'm looking for is a little bit of extra grip on my rod. I've seen lads using stuff above the reel seat (low reel position) where your hands would go.
What's the stuff people use ? Is it tennis racket grip if so where is the best place to get it ?

Anti-slip Racket Over Grips Bat Tennis Badminton Squash Tape Grips e-bay
works for me different colours couple of quid :)

If you want a spongy grip you could use cycle handle bar grip tape most bike shops stock it have seen it in Halfords

Non slip tread tape is the best. It comes in rubberised or a sandpaper finish. The sandpaper is fab but you need to take the back of a knife to it to take the surface off it or your rods will be scratched to hell.

The tennis racket grips are good but as soon as it's raining or you get fish slime on them its next to useless, they also stink after a while.

The rubberised grip tape is not cheap but you can cut it in long 5cm thick strips and spiral it. I find it gives superb grip but allows you to feel the rod and best of all transmit bites to the fingers!

Rather than putting like one lump one you just spiral it where you require the tape to be ? Does this work better ?

agree with andy david the bike stuff even when spiraled is quite thick keens tackle do some that is equally as good as the 3m stuff mitre the ends peel the backing off and away you go great stuff you can even use cord or heavy shockleader spiral round the blank tag off then cut a length of shrink tube shrink over your cord string etc just something a little different unless you wash your rod down like andy says crab mussell juices etc stink on your rod

Sports direct do the rubberized racket grip, it's foam but with a rubber strip through it, only 1.99 each I cut it in half, half just above reel and other half up the rod, it's lasted me months so far and seems fine..
