Well ladies and gents i headed up to Eyemouth yesterday, got there for 8am and headed to for Hairy Ness. Sea looked ok but when i got closer realised that there was a bit of a naughty swell so didnt fancy the step over when on my todd! Decided to fish a little cubby hole on the north east of the rocks, gave it a try for a few hours but only had the occasional knock with nowt to show for it. Then tried the south side just before the step over to the ness, lost two sets of float gear in the kelp and a couple of sets in the middle, did manage one small coalie on the spinner but i was tiny! Decided to head back to the car and stopped for oxygen at the top and thought id have a shot over the golf course end. Parked the car just past the football pitches and walked around the cliffs and saw a nice little path going down to a gut at the bottom, is that the Ramfauds? It was strange trying to recognise marks from the book but decided to just keep walking south along the cliffs climbing down now and again to see if i could get next the water, some of the marks look very fishy but by now i wasnt feeling very fit! Thought to myself i'll just take a look around this corner and realised that i couldnt really get much further cos i was at a sheer drop! Had a look over and thought this will do, bit higher than North Row Ends at souter so should be ok, aimed at the water with a lug and double crab bait and plonked my ass down for a breather, 5 mins later got a cracking bite and reeled like mad to get it to the bottom but got caught up on a ledge, gave some line and tried again then again then again and thought im gonna lose this, then pop it came over the ledge and cranked it to the top, my 1st proper red cod from Eyemouth! Wasnt huge and weighed in at 2lb 10oz but i was buzzing after that! Had another couple of chucks but nowt else, that fish made the day very worthwhile! Had a look at the book when i got in and i think the mark was Whalt Point, the pic in the book shows Scout point and looks like its taken from where i was, there was a seat at the top if anybody can help me out! Mr Storey? Thanks for reading and hope you get amongst the fish aswell!

Well done Jamie. I can imagine it was still lumpy up there so not ideal. When you were fishing where you were were you looking south and was there a few small islands / rocks between you and what you thought was Scout Point? If so it would be Whalt Point. Nice that the fish was so red as many of the first arrivals are caught while still "clean".

Yes david there were 3 rocks to the south of where i was, i took a pic on my mobile to compare with the book when i got home cos i forgot to take it with me, it looked the same but a different state of tide(higher). When i was walking south along the cliff i came over a little wooden bridge just before the sign that tells you to walk on the right hand side for your own safety, just fished to the left off the point and cast towards the rock to the left of the pic in your book showing scout point. Massively high and very deep! How the hell do you get to the bottom of that? There was a bloke fishing a skeer on the bottom but around 100yards to my left, had to make a step over about half way out.

Great report Jamie, for once mate a purely personal question. How clear was the water, I fancy a look up for a bit of spinning.

Jim.

Not as clear as i would have wanted Jim, still a bit of colour in it but think that was just off the few days before hand. The weather over the Easter would have been ideal but just a bit early. There was a lad from Edinburgh spinning on the rocks at the back of the golf course but he didnt have owt but he was staying on after i left so might have got lucky
