Just wondered if the die hard Suderland fans are concerned at the lack of supporters attending matches,I watched the highlights on Sunday afternoon and the ground was half empty, they also have special offers on for kids, buy one get one free I think, surely this must be a concern for the club and the regular supporters ,it looks almost certain they\'ll get promoted,so where\'s the fans :exclam:

Alan, as a lifelong fan I can tell you 3 major reasons for me not going now (used to be a regular season ticket holder)

1) Sick of the club taking the fans for granted.
2) P*** poor management.
3) The board making the fans collect for a statue to Bob Stokoe when the chairman sold his business for well publicised millions.

We had a great chance of being a major force in the Premiership when we finished 7th for 2 seasons in a row, but through various strange management decisions, we went backwards.

I\'ll always continue to support Sunderland (its in the blood, the same as any fan of any club) but I refuse to fork out a decent percentage of my wage for a season ticket when the people who run the club have the audacity to let the fans beg for coppers for a statue to the last manager to bring a major trophy to Sunderland.

What I will say is good luck to Mick McCarthy, the bloke deserves manager of the year for what he\'s achieved.

One last thing...read a letter in the Sunday Sun yasterday from a black and white saying they had the best supporters and all that rubbish. If he\'d been at the SOL last week at the Plymouth game, he would have seen what I consider to be the best supporters in the country - 800 of them who travelled from Plymouth to the north east for a midweek game, thats REAL support for you.

well said davey!

I might be a mag, but I despair at where \'chairmen\' are taking our clubs, (steve gibson excepted, maybe)

we seem to be moving back to the bad old days of the 70\'s for fat freddie at the toon read Gordon McKeag, for douglad hall read Stan Seymour

Bob murray should put up or shut up. If he dosen\'t want to invest in his club then sell up and let someone with a bit of passion for the game have a crack

McCarthy and even Peter Reid did wonders at sunderland bearing in mind they were given nowt to spend

Got to agree with you there Davy you\'s lot seem to have better support away from home, saying that I know lads that only go to away games supporting Newcastle including midweek and Europe games, they say theres much better atmosphere at away games !

I\'m a Sunderland fan that does not go anymore...ish

I\'\'d been going since I was 10, I had a season ticket from when I first got a job at 16 and kept it for 14 years. For 2 years of this time I was unable to get to games for reasons I won\'t go into but I kept the ticket on...what an idiot. During the 14 years I rarely missed an away game.

I\'ve been twice this year only to leave at half time on both occasions and we were winning both times. The standard of football is worse than the dark days of the Third Division in 1988. Sorry if you disagree but football is all about opinions. The \"Championship\" division is a very very poor standard this year. The lack of atmosphere at the ground is terrible as well. I actually prefer to watch my local Sunday League club team. ( We have won the League and cup double for two years and are top of the Gateshead League again this year and continue to significantly improve the squad each year....are you reading MrMurray?)

I spent too much money on a club and on a chairman who doesn\'t give a damn about the team....only about his own legacy, (e.g. A state of the art stadium he cannot fill). He needs to step to one side and allow someone with modern ideas and vision to take the reigns. Sadly, I cannot see this happening in the near future.

I doubt I\'ll ever go back on a regular basis...even if they became a decent side in the Premiership......for me the passion has all but gone because of events in the last 3 years. Failing to build on a side that was just short of European qualification is a crime that I cannot forgive.

Jeff.

Ps Writing that message was just like therapy.....

I\'d like to think that before long the bubble will burst all over the sport, get the recievers in to a few premiership clubs, watch the bleating from the spoilt brat superstars cos they can\'t get 60 grand a week anymore, and see the chairmen bail out and run to their villas in marbella, crying woe is me.

I used to love my football, never missed a home game at Roker Park and when the lads were away I would go with me mates and stand in \"The Shed\" at the town. Got totally peed off with the way things were run years ago and stopped going. Have never been to the S O L and have no intentions of ever going. Got to agree with Davy and Jeff, after a while it really starts to hurt. The fans are treat like they are disposable.
As Mark says it won\'t be long till some of the premiership teams start to struggle then watch for them trying to close the door after ALL the horses have gone.

Jim.

Does anyone think they\'ll survive in the Premiership providing they get there, personally I think theres only ten teams in the premiership that has the financial clout to stay there and one of those could have a bad season and go down,if you look down the lower leagues there\'s some big clubs just floating around doing nothing,Leeds,Coventry,Wolves,Forest,Derby,Shef Wed/United and Bradford, Wimbledon.

Personally I don\'t think there is the slightest chance of them surviving. I don\'t think it will be quite as bad as last time but I think it will have the same devastating effect on the team. Some of those players were so demoralised they never recovered.
It must be a very difficult thing to motivate yourself when you know that you and most of your team mates are not nearly good enough to compete at the top level and then you get crucified each week by the people you are playing for, the fans. Also knowing that there will be no new players coming in to help will also be a good boost for them I am sure.
God bless Bob Murray and please take him back to his big yacht in spain for ever, very soon please.

Got to bed at four this morning and have just been woken by someone at the door, was very pleased. never mind I now have his phone number to ring him back that makes me feel a bit better. Hope he leaves his mobile switched on at night.

Rant over.

Jim.

nowt worse Jim,think they have a competition in our street when I\'m on nights to see who can make the most noice.
Did you know him :exclam:

Don\'t know if they will stay up. If they don\'t, Murray can look back (Again) on his/the boards failure to ensure Sunderland went forwards and not backwards

Totally agree with Davys reasons for rare visits to SOL these days.
Last game I went to was Boxing day vs Leeds.
The standard of football was utter shite.
Watched our televised games this season, again the standard has been shite.
At least we are consistent!!

Don\'t know if they will stay up. If they don\'t, Murray can look back (Again) on his/the boards failure to ensure Sunderland went forwards and not backwards

If they don\'t get up, Murray will blame the fans for not coming to encourage the team and get behind them... IF they get up and come straight back again....ditto

If they get up and stay up it will, \"haven\'t I done a great job\" and \"look at me share price now\"

closely follwed by \"now we are a premiership side your ticket prices have just gone up 20%\" to pay for the bigger yacht I just bought

The wonderful Mr Murray has left season prices the same as last year IF you pay for them before April 15th, after which, I\'m told pirices will be raised by about 10%. He\'s obviuosly trying for damage limitation should the team not win automatic promotion, but I can\'t see too many takers, why pay upfront before you know what division you\'ll be in.

I promised myself I wasn\'t gonna have a moan on this thread cos even though I know the fans have been let down and taken for granted for far to long, I\'ll still be there next season!!!! It\'s called being a SUPPORTER not just a follower!

Sorry Keith, I\'ve paid thousands to that club in the past, which has gone to \'support\' the club financially, so that makes me a supporter, not a \'follower\'.

You\'ve made your choice, we\'ve made ours, but we\'re still supporters. The difference is, you\'re still pouring your hard earned into the club and we\'re not.

Wasn\'t having a go Davy, the \"follower\" bit was more aimed at the likes of some lads I \"engage\" in banter with, the \"we this\" and \"we that\" brigade, who\'ve never stepped inside Sid James\' or hadn\'t till the \"Messiah\" arrived.

Taking the bairn to the Reading game next week. I\'ll never forget the look on her face when she first walked into the SOL - it was about the same as mine that barmy summers evening against Man City. I walked up that ramp, looked round and was speechless. One thing Murray got right.

I remember my first game at Roker park. Walking up those steps and seeing the whole ground in front of me. It was against Arsenal about 1969. We got whopped but I won\'t forget it.

Jim.
