The top photo was taken just before I went off on my Summer hols (you can tell by the bleak weather in the background...lol), right at the start of the campaign. I\'d previously erected several of the posters (having got the blessing from the Port of Tyne Authority), at various points along the pier......they only lasted a few days before they had all been torn down

.....erected more......same story......put up a 3rd lot.......same again
When I got back from my hols, we arranged a date on the site for a physical clean-up of the pier ourselves. Again, the PTA granted us permission (infact they were flabbergasted that we wanted to do it). I got in touch with our Councils\' Cleansing section......they provided us with brushes, gloves & black bags......even let me use one of the Council vans over the weekend to cart the stuff down in
As it happens, the pier DID look an awful lot cleaner after I\'d returned from my hols........maybe the PTA had acted themselves, I dunno.
When we turned up on the day (bottom photo), the weather was attrocious....raining, high winds and the sea was breaking over the pier walls and the storm gate was locked.......consequently, for our own safety, the Pier Watchman couldn\'t let us on the pier
Still, it showed that a group of anglers.....some of whom had NEVER EVEN fished Shields pier before (Norman, Bob, Marc), were willing to put themselves out on a bleak, wet & windy Sunday morning to help clear up the mess of some some, so called \"fellow anglers\".
