Home on leave for 3 weeks so figured id get out on the Famous out of Hartlepool as ive been on with Dave the skipper several times and he always tries his hardest to put us on the fish, anyway got underway about 8ish after waiting and waiting for 2 guys who never turned up F*****S!

Got out to the 3 mile mark and started trying for macky, struggled and struggled and managed to get about 3 macky so moved on to the 9 mile mark, here we got about another 5 macky and were starting to think we are seriously going to struggle until the guy on the back shouted theyre about 20ft as he brought in a string of 5. After 15 minutes of the 8 of us bringing in 4 or 5 per cast we had enough and started to get the shads and hookais (spelling?) out.

I immediatly had a big big fish and managed to get about 2 minutes into a fight before it managed to get off, about 5 or 6 trys later i had another fish which i also lost about 20 turns up. After this it went relativly quiet for about 45 minutes until the guys on the bottom of the boat started getting fish on baited black hookais.

I switched to black baited hookais but was struggling to get through the macky (the things we were struggling to get earlier now we couldnt get rid of them) i eventually got my first cod on the hookais and managed to get it up but it was around 2 1/2lb so i myself have a rule of not keeping any cod below 3lb so this one went back, got another fish about 15 minutes later and again about 2lb so it went back. The guys down the backend of the boat were bringing them in left right and centre yet us at the front were really struggling however after about an hour it went really quiet so we moved to another spot which was a wreck followed by rough ground.

By now it was about 1pm and we had probably about 15 fish on board, i decided to put on a shad and as soon as i hit the bottom i was into a fish, brought up around a 3 1/2lb coddie so that was my first keeper, next cast i had a rather large 1lb 1/2 whiting but as i was only intersted in cod this also went back. Everyone on the boat was now catching on baited hookais and shads, one guy down the back of the boat caught a 7lb ling which was followed by a 9lb cod which at the time was winning the sweepstake, i managed to bring in another fish of about 3lb whilst losing another 2 or 3. Dave the skipper was getting nothing until he got (i think) 3 fish in a row on shads! I then hooked into a big fish and was having a cheeky little fight with it, dave playing the joke id hooked more macky, which got the comment back "if it is a macky its a new british record" about 2-3 minutes later i saw the first sign of colour and up it came a nice plump cod of 9 1/2lb a new pb for me :D and which would would the sweep stake.

Around 1530 i lost another big big fish. and about 1630 after everyone on the boat had caught plenty of fish we headed back towards the marina.

Final catch total was over 100 cod and ling and unknown number of mackerel. I personally took 8 cod and 1 ling home, put back 5 cod under 3lb and 1 whiting. I also lost 2 very good fish and probably 8 more fish.

Hope this isnt a big drawn out as its my first catch report.

Cheers

Jamie
