Orange Shad

Well-known member
Off to the first trip of many on "Famous" today, I took a party of 6 from the local fishing club at Blyth and together with 6 of our Polish anglers with Kris in charge, off we set into a very thick pea soup with John at the helm and young Dalton as mate.

Dave had left at 6am with Ali-Cat, but John was sure we would catch up with him during the day.

With a gentle sea running off we set, the sun trying very hard to burn off the cool fog.

First drop with a mixture of shads, baited shads, baited muppets, heavy metal and a partridge and a pear tree, down they all went.
Lots of small stuff began coming up, whiting and scotch haddocks, then the Mackerel started coming on board and there were some really good fish among them, some well over the 2lb mark, all in excellent condition.
I stuck with shads all day changing only once from Red Head to Stripy Tiger and managed 10 good fish, best touching 7lb.

Codling started coming over the side from all sides of the boat, nice and steady, nothing massive but very nice sized fish.
Another few drifts and off we moved to another spot, John keeping us amused with his banter and chat, great to have a laugh when you're enjoying yourself.
On this drift, young Dalton hits something tasty and brings up a couple of nice fish in quick succession with the best of around 11lb.

We fished steady for most of the day with only a quiet spot around slack water, once the tide began to turn off it picked up again and Stevie fishing next to me took a nice Ling just over the 9lb mark

Our Polish friends were not to be out done and added to the total with numerous Ling and Cod, Ling into double figures and some nice Cod pushing the magical 10lb mark, everyone onboard had fish, a testimony to John our skipper who tried all day to "keep the customer satisfied", thanks for a great day John, our lot will be back.

Anyway, young Dalton hadn't finished and brought a nice double figured Ling in to keep spirits high.

And Stevie next to me hadn't finished either, out with a nice plump cod

The Sun tried it best during the day but it lost out to the fog, a pleasant day never the less, happy smiling faces among all on board.
A quick blast along the A19 back to Sunny Blyth and the job I love, FILLETTING
