Left onboard “FAMOUS” from the Marina at the usual time of 7.30am, both weather and sea looking good, even expected to be doing a little sunbathing, just a gentle westerly blowing, forecast a little wrong yet again.
Fishing the rough ground was the order of the day, Dave had had both boats out over the weekend and reported Cod up to 14lb and a lot of good sized fish in the 8lb bracket.
Today was going to be nearly just as good.
So off we set with a nice slow drift, long enough to hang over the ground long enough to attract some interest.
We didn’t have to wait too long before the action began, Gary taking the first codling of the day, Shaun on the port side responded in contacting a nice fat 5-6lb fish using the deadly Rhubarb and Custard shad.
Very soon after he brought up a similar fish
Around the boat some nice fat specimens started coming over the gunnels, Jay at the stern bringing in a steady stream of excellent sized fish, topping out at the end of the trip with a total of 10 fish with the best about 12lb, but 5 or 6 in the 7-8lb range, well done that Man.
The fishing kept steady all day, again no frantic bursts, just pleasant fishing, I had the pleasure of meeting Brian (Clarky) and his fishing buddy, Mick, from NESA, both lads fished away steady and took some nice fish to the table, Nice meeting you guys.
Gary at my left and Dave to my right, fishing well, taking some nice clean fish between them, again some nice fish ranging upwards of 7-8lb, all beautiful clean fish.
Shaun meanwhile takes probably the best Ling of the day on a shad, at the front latching into a doubled figure fish.
I had started a little slow, trying a variety of shad colours, cant say one particular colour fished best for me today, but one of my better fish was taken on a solid “Black” sidewinder, never used before, but worked pretty well today for me.
The Mackerel played Hidey, Seeky today, I think about 20 in total on the boat, bit of bumma when I wanted half a dozen, saying that the vast majority of fish were Cod in the region of 95, with about 10 Ling coming up on the day.
Anyway, yet another great day onboard, Banter at its best, dry as sticks, makes the day even more pleasant.
So off home to for the favourite job of filleting and a big smile on my face, looking forward to the next one
My final total, Nine good Cod and One fat Ling
Until the next time Guys, Tight Lines
