I am thinking of buying a camera, i have £1000 to spend, what do you advise is the best one to buy, i have been looking at a Canon
Model: \"EOS 350D\". SLR design and true digital SLR DSC. 8 million pixels, 1.8-ins TFT LCD display.

Tony\'s yer man for that one Roy mate. As much as I love taking photograph\'s, all I have is a couple of Digital cameras. Marc might give you a few idea\'s also though, as I am sure one or two more on NESA might lol.

Jim.

Roy, the Canon EOS 350D is an excellent choice and is good value for money.

Personally, I\'ve always used Nikon gear (since around 1980). An alternative to the Canon would be the Nikon D70s - in in the same price bracket and although only 6 Mpx (compared to the EOSs\' 8 Mpx), I\'d go for the Nikon - simply for reliability and previous years of experience with Nikon. Also - Nikkor lenses can\'t be beaten for quality - well, the old manual lenses anyway - can\'t speak for the digital versions.

Marc would be able to give you a better insight on the Canons as, where I use exclusively Nikons - he uses Canons exclusively.

roybert we have just purchased a nickon d70 s with a 18 / 70mm lens for a christmas present for my mother and she has been given it early and she says its the dogs doo dahs

hope this helps a little sean

NIkon, without a doubt

their pedigree is pretty much unbeatable, and Nikkor lenses are probably the best mass market optics in the world, and I\'d probably guess the extra 2 megapixels of a canon won\'t be noticable

the whole pixel thing can be misleading....when is a pixel not a pixel...when it effective or interpolated

I\'ve bought my other half a D50 for chrimbo, for just under 500 quid, with a grand budget, you\'ll get enough change to buy a good second lens to go with it.

Haven\'t gone over to digital yet (I know.....dinosuars & all that...lol).
Hoping to be moving into the 21st Century some time in the new year.
Been seriously thinking about this baby......

At £3,500 for the body only, the thinking HAS to be \"serious\"...lol

Hi Ya,

I don\'t think there is really that much diference between the Canons and Nikons.

The only reason I chose the Canon was for the focus in low light and 8.5 frames a second on the 1D mkIIn. It seemed to be a little better than the Nikon D2X although the Nikon has one or two better features.

I bought two of theses...

I also bought a full frame 5D which is a cracking studio camera..

I bought and use a Fuji S2 Pro at work for product photography. Generally great but the odd issue has been thrown up. I will be replacing it with a Nikon in about 14 months.

I know a couple of photographers that use the fuji S2, with nikkor lenses and they\'ve be very happy with them

flogged nearly all my Nikon film bodies, to make way for a D2, just waiting to see if the sales in the new year drop the prices at all...

Failing thst, I\'m gonna buy one in Hong `kong and get it shipped over, bought a few lenses direct from the far east and they\'ve worked at a almost half of the UK price

thanks for adding the pic tony....mark i bought my lense and SB-80 DX flashgun from a company called Digitalrev in hong kong and saved a fortune, from ordering to deliver was 5 days and you could trace it on the internet...excellent service by anyones standards

The Canon 350 D Im going for that one :D Used my Canon A1 for many years but its time for new horizons with the digital age..

lol ! my mates got one for £30 and he gets free porn. ill try and get the name of it mate.

nar seriously , i was looking to get mesel a little digital one of some kind at a budget price as it would be my first ever one( apart from me daft phone) but all you lads must be full time pros with them sort o prices !

Lol Mick..........

Aye I make my living from my cameras.
As the \"newest\" camera I have (one of the Nikon F3HPs) goes back to 1982 and has served me well in all that time, I think it\'s time to put it into partial retirement and face the digital age......

The cost of digital cameras (digital everything, really), is always coming down. You can get very decent digitals at very reasonable prices.
This is a link to the Argos site.......I\'m sure you could get a decent camera for even less if you look around. Happy hunting - and don\'t forget to post your pix on the Board:-

at the end of the day Mick it all depends on what you want to use it for and the results you expect from it, if its just to take the occasional family holiday pic etc then it would be a waste of money buying the type of cameras mentioned above, but however if your wanting to experiment with photos and take loads of them with different lenses then its an expensive purchase, i personally think it is quite a cheap hobby to have after the initail purchaseof the kit
