bought one new and ready magged ,mag goes through the clicker hole so you loose that, not that impressed with the finish mind.leaves a big hole that would let water/salt ect get in behind the side plate, made a little hard plastic cover that ill have to super glue in place then ill seal it from the back, would be better with a metal blanking plate but that's beyond me

Aye, ur right mate I wouldnt be happy with the big hole either but youve done a good job patching it up mate, ive just bought one aswell , hasnt been magged and I havnt used it yet so I think ill see how it goes before I deside on getting it magged or not.

Not the best job Peter heres mine that Chris Macey done

much better that one nicky,i bought a centre mag plate from pmr for the tourno and when on the phone I asked him about magging the fathom, think hes trying to sort a side plate out for them

glued the plastic blank in place then cleaned the loads of penn blue grease of the inside of the plate, sealed the ratchet hole with water proof silicone then just in case gave the inside of the plate a thin smear of abu grease to help protect it.not perfect but better than the big hole that was there

Dont think i would want it magged after looking im just gan go with non magged

if you read up on them theres problems with the brake blocks jumping on when doing a big cast plus they turn to dust.first fathom ive bought mind so don't know how true this is

Your rite fellah, got mine magged b4 it even had line on,brakes prone to "springing on"during casting, save the hassle m8 n get it converted:)
Ps don't like the hole, but good job with your repair buddy.

Brake blocks turn to dust. Thats a good one.and I suspect claim made by aftermarket mag unit manufactures. They do cast further with a well set up mag unit tho. But not as far if badly set up

as said its the first one ive had so its just what ive read and been told off a lad I work with,he got chris macey to do his reel,he seems to make a good job.anyway been on phone for a hour to Jamie at pmr and he asked for pics of the mag ect,the reels away down to him now ,hes using it as a bit of a prototype and re drilling the plate then putting a big 12mm mono mag on it,ill put some pics up when it comes back

Chris macey does a 1st class job. Not sure bout that pmr bloke. No dealings myself.my feeling is he talks a good job.but like I say nee dealings with him.

dont know why you's did'nt just buy a penn mag 525 ive not had no a problems with mine even when the brake blocks jump out still getting a good distance cracking reel apart from the handle's seem to slacken after a while thats the nobby bit of the handle

Was going to get jamie at pmr to do my fth12,but after speaking with him he didn't have any mag conversions that was strong/good enuff to stop/slow dwn the fth.He could of done the mod 4 me but wasn't 100% happy with it,but he was in the middle of producing an endplate mag n a seperate mono mag 4 use in the conversions, said that it was going to be a while tho b4 they came available.Me been eager i couldn't wait so i asked chris n he said he was 110% happy with his mags n conversions, well that was good enuff 4 me lol, never looked bk:).Jamie did say they would be available 4 the 525's n the fth's n that it would be "right"when they were ready n that they r worth waiting 4:cool:.
ps just my bit to the thread lol.
