Favorite rigs

I'm trying to increase my catch rate from "why do you bother going? You never catch anything!" to "that'll do great for tea...." not very likely I know... and the only difference I've noticed between me catching or the lad next to me is rig type? So, what's peoples favorite rigs, for winter and summer. I mainly fish the piers and rock marks. Any advice would be great.

I like to use a fairly long hook length on either a dropper rig or an up'n'over rig

The up'n'over is the easiest...

Ill try and post a link up when i can

Whilst rigs are important its more likely your bait or bait presentation that needs looking at. When fish are in feeding mood you will catch on just about any rig. It's vital to use the right bait on the right hook size. Your hook point and gape should clear, too large a bait will mask the hook. A simple 2ft to sinker,3ft to hook will catch any amount of fish.
If you can use a pennel hook it will up your catch rate considerably, just expect to find the odd snag with the extra hook.
IMO pulley rigs result in lots of missed bites so stay clear of them. My favourite rig is the two hook flapper with 3ft hooklengths. Hook sizes 2 for flats, 1 or 1/0 for whitings, 2/0 for coalies,3/0-4/0 for codlings.
For distance a loop rig or a up and over, don't forget bait stops on clipped rigs.

Thanks the advice, I know what mean with missed bites on a pulley rig. I think I'll go for the simple rig version you mentioned and see how I go.
I think my bait presentation is ok, but I'm not a fish so I'll give that another overhaul as well.

in our match the other night. my mate used a 2 hook pulley and a drop down pulley.

it worked well for his 2 cod but he struggled when the whiting strarted to feed.

while those around him were catching fish 2 at a time on a fixed hooklength, he was getting the bites but couldnt hook up.

hes learned his lesson and will take a vaiety of rigs next time.

Personally a dont think its anything to do with the rig it's all about the bait a reckon.if the bait is juicy enuf it's gonna take it all day long but ppl have to remember u can't catch every time u go out dont get me wrong some ppl do but if u expect to then ur just building ur hopes up and are more gutted when u dont.

most rigs will catch including the pulley rigs imho very important along with bait ,some baits will totaly outfish anyother bait on any given day reason why ??????.

other important factors to rigs baits etc etc is having time to get down in right conditions picking moderate sized tides fishing during darkness for best results.

one thing to remember and very important is to use substantial mono when using pulley rigs and strong hooks for the safety factor when using pulley rig.

Good Lttle rig book that. Got it myself

Tried the bomber rig, tangled every time.

Tried adas plaice rig, tw@t to tie, tangled every time.

Tried the Portsmouth rig, tw@t to tie, even harder to clip up when the winds blowing, it's cold n yr dressed like the Michelin man! Tangles well too.

Wessex is ok:)

for me i like to keep it as simple as i can, i use 1 big rolling swivel, tie a 2ft rig body and then a 3ft hook trace if using big baits i use a pennel hook to help keep it nice and tidy. if i need distance then its the up and over rig, same benefits as a pulley rig but few bites missed and your baits is on the floor where cod feed.

Pulley rigs as pointed out are not so effective for smaller fish. I use a modified pulley rig which has a sliding stop knot on so it behaves like a normal paternoster until you get a larger fish on then pulls through like a normal pulley rig.

up and over rig same benefits as a pulley rig where the weight is lifted before the fish. i also use simple patnosters with rottem bottoms. cheap and effective.

How far down the rig body do you tie the snood or is it clipped to the swivel that holds the lead
