Having a problem finding a decent finger stall and at the point of making my own from some heavy leather and getting it stitched. Had a Colmic one that shredded after a couple of months and a leather yuki one that didnt even last a session!

Im using a 100lb braid leader and and the finger stalls are being torn to bits and i dont want my finger next!

Also dont want to have to keep putting on a casting glove nor do I want a casting cannon, anyone found anything thats up to the job?

Follow this with interest Andy same problem so far everything tried disintergrated quite quickly lucky not my finger..

I think you have to bite the bullet on this.
Leather scuffs so that it becomes wafer thin in no time at all and anything less will disintegrate even quicker.
That's the law of physics and there's nowt you can do to change it.

I'm betting you just don't want a cannon because it's not butch enough for you.
Wrong.
It's bloody fantastic. If you're local, from Hendon prom to Hartlepool, you're very welcome to try my set up to check it out. You'll be amazed at how simple it is and how much further you can throw a lead.

By the way, those who need finger protection for multipliers need something good too. I ripped a bloody big scar right up the centre of my thumb some time ago and it took ages to heal and hurt like hell.

What I use now are the rubber coat hanger straps which have a hole at each end that allows them to slide onto the end of the coat hanger to prevent the clothes from sliding off.

Just put one of the holes under the bottom reel seat and the remaining strip lays over the spool to press down for casting. It's great as well. Will try and get a photo on to show you later.

Just a thought, but have you looked at Kevlar gloves? There are many types on the market, some with leather covering (i.e.. police-type gloves) or woven fabric types. If you were to cut off the fingers and fashion into finger-stalls each pair should yield 8 or 10 (depending if the thumb can be used). With the cut-resistant properties of the kevlar they should last longer than plain leather, even if the covering gets shabby. A quick look on the web shows a few types ranging from about £4 - £10 for a pair, so you could potentially make 10 for anywhere between 40p - £1 ea. (with a little work!)

Cannon

Cannon

Come now Mr Chukka seems solution is easy you need to butch up with a cannon and get some casting lessons ............simples LOL

ive had to spend some time with my cannon to feel confident with it. the line just flies off and does go further..... for me anyway.

I've got the tronixpro finger stall, used it for around 3 or 4 sessions and it's almost worn through now. (I was just going to wrap a bit of duct tape around it, see how that goes).

Thanks for offer, already tried a cannon and hated it, far too much faffing around. I like to be able to easily adjust my drop length by feathering the line in my fingers. You can't do that with a cannon. I do however think they may save a bent fixed spool spindle!

If you don't like them then that's that really,
However your logic seems well..... illogical.

If you hold the line in your finger to adjust the drop length it means you allow one complete turn of line from the spool to be released. As a minimum of course but in full spool turns nevertheless.

Same with the cannon too. If the drop length is too short you have to go in full spool releases to get to where you want. There's no difference.

The only downside, if it can be called that, is that it takes a couple more seconds to wrap the line round the cannon knob. As we aren't casting out loads of times a session it can't really matter.

I'm not trying to persuade you into using it if you don't like it though. I'm adding this info for other people so they can make a considered choice.

One of the disadvantages of using something on your finger to save it from being stripped of skin, is that when doing touch fishing by keeping the line over your finger to feel even the tiniest bite as you can with braid, you lose that sensitivity.

all though i agree with the cannon as i use 1 know but i also use a bit of japanese shrinktube cut off to the shape off my finger shrink it a bit then apply it to my finger then gently heat a bit more being careful not to burn yourself with the naked flame fits like a glove as if to say works mint with braid mono depending on your hand size i would say the 25mm shrink would do even a big blokes finger if you need any off cuts let me know and i will try and sought some out for you

It's gonna be no better than good quality leather finger stalls. It will wear away quickly but perhaps at less cost but a lot more faffing about.

Gardner Casting glove. You can get them in right or left hand, thick leather over casting finger but still loads of feel.
