Fire in the hole!

major stuff going on today. ripped the checkerplate walkways up in the engine room to have a look at the 'damaged' cable. quite a scary thought really, the cables down there in the pic were nearly 20mm overall diameter once, must of been a 'proper' fire when they shorted out to burn them to that state, and melt all the plastic fixings in the vicinity, a lucky escape really thinking what might of happened, 4 150Ah batteries going short circuit next to 400 gallons of diesel in an oily wooden boat :eek:

the cables are completely burnt out, as is some of the other cabling that ran nearby, I guess just from the heat

so whilst I was trying to tame the burnt out rats nest, himself cleared some more of the bilges.... using a Kango/SDS drill.

Nowt delicate about Pansy's nether regions at the minute

Freakin' A - you must have been quick on the shutter release to catch the fatman grafting! Or was it one of those infra red trigger fellas they use to capture pictures of pygmy hippos and unicorns?

note from the picture the lack of dust etc at the chisel end. After working feverishly for ages I managed to give him a real fright by suggesting he squeeze the little button/switch on the handle to turn it on

It made noises and jumped about and everything - I would have preferred to let nature take it's course and leave to natural erosion, concrete as we know is after all 98% water with a few stones mixed in.

Apparently the brushes for the starter motor got burned up or summat so we need a new starter motor. I suggested it looked clean enough anyway and would only get dirty again so why new brushes - what's wrong with just one really good brush with very stiff bristles anyway. Why do we need a starter motor anyway we've already got a git mahoosive one with a key on the other end - it's a deisel I know that much and is cooled by injectors flowing over a water wheel with alternators in it.

See the big black pipe coming out of my napper - that's the bilge pump hose for my super hadron brain :D

Did you borrow them rubber gloves from Mark Charlie, as they are a lot dirtier than the "Suits You Sir" boiler overcoat your wearing. :)

Looks like a scene from Red Dwarf.

How yee - knee pads 'an all. I am not shy in admitting my main strengths are

  • Motivation etc when crew members are about to die
  • A foil for random abuse
  • My knees are a different matter (glass Knee syndrome - rare but common on my legs)
  • Picking up dog ends
  • Everything else that's good in Life
Don't force me tell my red dwarf story again
