First bass

Had myself another trip out last night with the week off work, it was a lot harder going and baits were coming back untouched so looks like the fish have full bellies now, tried three venues but eventually got my first bite which resulted in my first bass weighing near 2 1/2lb.

Well done mate, still only had the one myself and that was up in Scotland. My mate got one from Horden last year when he nested his reel and dropped short in the edge. Sorted his reel out and there was a nice bass on the end. That was December on a freezing cold night.

Lovely fish that. Don't tell us where it was from! but it would be interesting to know what type of rig and hook size, it was on.

Well done on your first Bass. I would love to catch one, but unfortunately there are none where we live, plus Kayos has no clue about shore fishing....................................come to think of it he has no clue about boat fishing either! :D

You're a good month too late for the lures mate. More chance with bait, this time of year. Don't cast too far.

I have had quite a few around the East coast while fishing for Cod in the winter, using the usual Cod set up pennel rig.
Never caught any in the summer though, fishing the same areas.

There are more than you think right up the coast, but you need to cast short or make a balls up of a long cast !! Daveys right on the marks but they are all the way up the coast. They often only fight when nearly landed and I think a lot of anglers loose bass in the surf thinking they have lost a decent cod, just my thoughts anyway.

welldone on the bass.as mentioned short casts seem to do the trick.{keep your headlights off, tend to frighten them.little heads up.south end of long beach s/s is a good venue for them.had a good few there myself, aswell as many local anglers have.:)
