big cod

The wreck fishing of late has been excellent with shads hammering the cod but toaday with the wind forcast being quite strong i decided to have a crack inshore uptiding .
The storm we had earlyer in the week was big and i new cod would have come well inshore in droves its getting to that time of year late september that the uptiding is just round the corner but what a surprize the lads got today with cod and ling both in double figures with other cod upto and around the 7lb mark all the indications point to a massive upting season.

This man nails a cod of 13lb,

Good result Paul, do you find any particular bait fishes best, worm, crab, squid, for uptiding.

Squid took the 13lb fish but black and squid fished ok ithere was a few on edible peelers having a go tommorow got plenty of crab cart to try interesting to see how we go on it is the early for uptiding another 2 or 3 weeks before we start usually but it looks like a good season ahead.

I do sometimes have a laugh when i read the does and donts the majority of uptiding or downtiding, downtiding is nearly all done in this part of the world we are genrally fishing hard ground and casting uptide when you get a fish on and it breaks your lead out very often you get jammed up so its better downtiding .
Also i tend to fish on roughly ground in 60ft of water so there is no scare area under the boat infact nearly all the biggist cod we have had while doing this sort of fishing have been with lads just dropping down the side of the boat there is one thing with this sort of fishing its great fun catching quality fish in shallow water if you like shore fishing you would allmost defernetly love this type of fishing on a boat the rigs are very similar.
