First ever Bass

Decided to try my new waders out on tuesday night so headed down to whitburn/seaburn beach. Nothing doing for the first hour then bang, my rod was hit that hard it seemed like it was about to jump out of the stand. Struck into the bite & all I could feel was a fish pulling like mad & moving all over the place. When I finally got the fish in I was over the moon to catch my first ever BASS. It weighed in at just under 3lb.

Half an hour later the same thing happened, this time it was just over 2lb.

Also caught a small flattie but ended the night at high tide catching loads of small whiting.

I wreckon its BASS fishing from now on.

Well done Brian! good geting your 1st bass, happened to me a couple of wks ago 2 in 20mins, then nowt but coalies and flatty's, shoals on the move! mine where only bout 12" returned safely!

Nice bass there mate - I've yet to get a sizer this year Though I haven't really been targeting them so not surprising really - must give it a proper go again soon!

As more and more of these schoolie bass are being caught from our local beaches, can I please remind everyone that the NFSA minimum size limits are 41cm (16in) for our region.

Remember, these slow growing fish do not spawn until at least 42cm and plans were announced to raise the minimum size limit again in the near future to 45cm in an attempt to conserve UK stocks.

well said rob theres a lot of under size bass being taking all over the place i have seen this with my own eyes and reported it ,boils my p**s
these are a great sport fish,if any one sees these being taking under size report them

nice pair of bass there, whats the best bait for them and do you catch them in daylight as well as night? as you can probably tell i aint caught 1 yet.lol.

Ragworm is as good as anything Tony but I have caught quite a few when fishing for Cod with Lug, Mussel and Runnydown. The best one I caught was caught in daylight but I've had a lot more in the dark. You don't usually have to cast far for them either mate.

Nice fish Brian, they don't half give a canny bite don't they lol.
