First ever boat trip

Well im booked up to go out on maggie may in july with Mick Dunn. Will be my first ever proper boat trip.

As a result im gunna need to spend money on some gear.

will my sl30sh and 7000 be alright for reels?

Im told i need a 12-20lb class rod any one know of any going cheap lol?

Also pirks and large boat sinkers?? again best place to get em cheap??

Dont really want to lavish a fortune in case i dont like it!

Depends what you want to spend...you can easily pick up a rod in that class for less than £30...

The Slosh 30 will be OK

As to leads - I use 12ozs as an average and they work out a £1 average in the shops and you'll prob beed at least a dozen or more for a session (prob closer to 20 if it's really bad)

I'd ring the skipper and ask if he's got a set up you can hire for the day.

Fishing with crap gear will spoil the whole experience and if you decide you like it you can put the cash you save towards some decent gear.

When i started last year i bought a 20-30lb rod off e-bay and used it with my 7000 with 30lb line. Did the job fine.
As time moved on and i gained more experience i invested in a Diawa 12-20lb rod a new Diawa reel and some 30lb braid.
Cost about £120.
Lovely to fish with and you can feel a lot more going on.
I will also be taking the 20-30lb rod and a Penn Gto reel with 50lb line on it-but i probs won,t need it.
Much better fun with lighter gear.
As to wieghts and jiggers i lose on average about five of each which in a day is not to bad.(jigger £3 each and wieghts £1 each). I have took a couple of trebles off some jiggers and put on single hooks.Hoping to minimise loss.
My box is ready to go now for a trip to Whitby i am having with some lads off the wsf forum. The box wieghs a ton.
Blue shads seem to be doing the bizz of Whitby and i was told today the small macky shads seem to be working off Hartlepool.
Fingers crossed and either me or Insano might land a doubler.
Don,t go mad with the gear Ian.John the boat owner has spare stuff.

Its the cost of the lead.
£3 is not expensive when you look at the slimline Norwegian pirks which are painted in gaudy colours.
I,ve seen them for sale for nearly a tenner in NE Tackle.
