Went down onto the beach with Sean to fish the start of the flood from 8am to 10am, just using really light tackle, fishing close in, about 5-10yards into a canny gulley. (You can see the hole under the rod tip in the pic).
First cast was only in the water about a minute when I got a double shot.
So first fish of the year was a flounder (and not the bass I was hoping for!).
Kept getting flounder every chuck, ended up with 12. Then we decided to go onto the pier.
Fished from the 42 mark. Seen a few of the regulars, Joe, Gordon, Bill. Not a lot getting caught but my first 2 casts I got 2 small dabs and third cast a small coley, but then nothing for a couple of hours, so we gave up with the intention of going home, but then decided to pop to jarrow for an hour.
I blanked at jarrow but Sean got a couple of codling out.
Canny day, nowt special, but plenty of fish, and 3 species for me to start the year!
