Hey people happy new year! Went down the rathouse tonight fished where the railings are half way up had 4 whiting to about 1lb. It was my first time down there and I lost 3 rigs due to snags is all the ground around there like that? is there any areas clear of snags? whats the pier part like to fish and last question whats the beach part near the car park like and has anyone tried the beach area near roker pier if so is it any good? sorry about the questions guys just think it's a good mark if I knew a bit more about it.

ive fished it a few times both at the railings and the part without and ive never had 1 snag there. you have a bit more room to cast on the pier part. its spot on if its just Fish you want, im yet to catch any decent fish there but caught plenty. only been on th beach for a few casts as the wind was too bad.

Don't think I've ever lost any rigs there like I normally fish off the end with rod stand or at opposite end at the 2nd set of seats if it's not to full.

Mate that area along the car park used to be called "flattie wall" before it was developed years ago, never seen anyone fishin there for a long time a think due to the blocks they have put in. Lads usually fish into the bay from along the pier at the ratty and then fish the slope on the sea side into the bay.

The beach inside the pier is a good shot for Cod when theres a S Easterly swell running into the bay.To the left of the lifeboat ramp in the middle is best.
You can also catch Whiting,Flounder and Coalies there when its flat.
3 up 3 down on medium to big tides being the best time.

Again, rarely loose gear at the ratty. 5oz grippers will do for 90% of your fishing there. Good fishing, but usually for smaller fish. This winter there's been a load of YT's. Better fish tend to come from the bottom corner by the marina.

Not fished the basin that often, but not had much sucess there. Give Roker Pier a shot and find a spot or two you like. Remember, you don't have to fish off the end, or cast to the seaward side.

If you walk down the small steps onto the walkway behind the yacht club the first bit can be snaggy but anywhere from the second bench to the bottom corner it is snag free. It's a great spot and you can get fish even just dropping a line straight down the wall.
