Geordie... and myself fished the Fish Quay last night just after low water. First cast resulted in me getting a canny bite but nothing to show for it. Second cast resulted in a small Rockling. First time I've ever seen one.
After that a few fishing boats came in so we had to hang fire for a while. Upon restarting nothing neither of us got a bite.
Later on, 3 tugs came down to meet a car carrier, they all went down by the Groyne, but Rowangarth came back up to the Fish Quay and sat about 100 yards out. Then came a bit closer, then closer still, then began going forwards and backwards as if he were looking for our lines.
Unfortunately for him we'd already brought our lines in. After about 15 minutes I intimated I'd cast off, but had only lobbed my weight over the side of the quay, and off he went again, back and forth, keep coming in closer and closer.
First time I've had a running battle with a tug before!! Ooooerrrr!
Today, we decided to go out after the match and tried the Groyne just after high water, but the wind was blowing a proper hoolie. So we moved onto the little beach. Nowt, apart from one crab and lots of sand in our eyes!! In fact I'd say it was absolutely sh***!!!
Incidentally, we were talking to a skipper off one of the fishing boats on the fish quay last night. He'd been catching prawns. He asked if there were many cod being caught and I said not really and he said that they're seeing loads out at sea. When I asked how far out he fished he replied "a fair way!".
