Fish Quay (low water)

Plan was to get to Lewis's nice and early for me bait then hit Whitley pipe. Got down there a little too early and it was still covered so decided to hit the river down on the quay. 2nd cast an undersized flounder. 3rd cast, lobster (about 1lb). Had 3 small codling after that, the biggest about 12Oz. Not bad for 3 hours. Oh and I would of returned home without losing any gear if it wasn't for the prick in the boat catching my line. Luckily I still had enough line on my reel to keep fishing coz I had no spare line in my box.
Anyways, a decent little sesh, and on the plus, I remembered my suncream. Happy days.

Baits used: Rag n Lug.

Sorry no pics lads, when ever I brought sumit up there was a crowd of people gathering round and would of felt a bit of tit taking snaps.

Well done m8 but i would watch your rod while boats are around as one of the lads lost his rod and reel as it got pulled into the drink so be alert always as gear costs that much nowadays so good luck to you m8.

Aye, I read that. Well I watched him come in but didnt have time to start reeling in so I just held my rod low as I could, but he still caught it. Never mind tho...

I've had quite a few reel-loads of line trashed there over the years - now I've got pretty good at spotting whether boats are going to turn into the Gut or poodle past right in front of me; where I fish if they don't begin to turn I usually have enough time to reel in like the clappers! and if I'm in any doubt I always reel in just in case. If they're far enough out they'll usually pass ok, but sometimes they're coming alongside to tie up or get fuel.

One thing I carry with me now when I fish the quay is a plain 6oz lead with a snap-link attached. If it looks like you're going to get cut up by a boat, snap the lead onto your line and let it slide down till it hits the water, then let your line out so that it pulls it to the bottom before the boat passes. Hopefully it'll save a sliced line, but I'd reel in as soon as the boat passes so that, hopefully, your line doesn't become tangled among the snags that lie closer in.
