Hi all,

Can you please give me your opinions, good or bad, about fishing clubs. I have just started looking into one club in particular and all I have been told so far is that it will cost me £24 per year, £4 goes to NFSA (dunno why).

I am looking to join purely from a learning point of veiw, Im a big beleiver in more doing and less reading, and hopefully making more contacts in the fishing world.

Also does any of you know what I could expect for my £24? why does there have to be membership fees? I have to be very careful before parting with money, Im too tight to be throwing it around lol.

As always your advice is appreciated.
Steve

Hi Steve, welcome to the site.

I\'ve never been a member of a club, so I can\'t really comment.

However, there are a number of lads on here who have been members of clubs for years and I\'m sure they\'ll be able to answer your queries.

Hi steve and welcome mate. I used to be a member of a club and I have mixed stories to tell. There was a certain amount of people in that club that would not make you welcome, that would meet up in the car park and never give you the time of day. BUT there was one man in that club that made me VERY welcome and I will never forget him. He gave me a lot of very useful information. Thankyou Brian H. Will not print your full name as I don\"t want to embarrass you.

Jim.

haha could be me willy my name and initial but its ;) not,
welcome stevie
ive looked into joining a few clubs myself though not for sea fishing, the few i did look at tended to be a tight knit lot but as willy says you do get some decent chaps, youd be far better off (not slagging the clubs off here )getting your nesa badge from billys or wherever and hopefully youl bump into a few of the lads & lasses from the site while fishing between them they have all the knowledge you want and itl not cost you £24 to get the help you need

I\'m sec of the Alnwick Sea Anglers. If I was you I\'d ask what the £24 goes toward. We charge £10 for subs and a further £2 per week goes to the subs. This is to buy anything we may need thru the year i.e. New trophies, scales, and it also goes to a Knees up we have at the end of the season. That includes prize money for categories, raffle prizes i.e reels rod stands etc.
We also have an optional charge of £2 per week which equates to £1 for heaviest fish and £1 for heaviest bag.
I have only fished for 3 seasons in the club and I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that we have a great bunch of lads who have a good bit banter and are more than willing to give you help, advice and lifts if you are a non driver and are stuck!
How about a sub section for clubs, contacts etc Tony?

Not a member myself mate, but if you contact Tonybax, hes a member a seaton sluice and says its great. Learnt new marks, made mates. etc.
Worth a try.

i am a member of what i think is a good club. it is about £20a year which includes a key for access to the pier insureance and towards the running of the club. each comp costs £3 which part goes to wards trophys and the christmas comp, there is also optional pairs comp and sealed weight which are £1 per person and 50p per person. by the way my local club is seaham harbour.great bunch of lads and lasses and most will help you with anything.

\"How about a sub section for clubs, contacts etc Tony?\"

Excellent idea, Rory :exclam:

Any club members / secretaries ...........send me some details e.g. name of club sec., contact tel. number, membership fees, etc, and some brief details of your club and I\'ll put them up on the Board.

I\'ll create a new area in this forum (similar to the \"Charter Boats\" area in the Boat Fifhing forum), specifically for club details.
