they woul;dnt make money say they sold 10 000 passes that they wouldnd your talking about 500 max you need to pay security wages liability insurance if they could get it without railings i doubt they would get to make that safe would cost millions then there is the risk of people getting in the dock stealling from there causing trouble then people going on the south pier it snow balls with health and safety the way it is now that will never ever be open
they cant make you sign a waver mate if they have made you pay for a pass they are liable for your safety and the safety of the structure as them giving you this pass means they deam were your fishing to be safe if a wave knocks u in they will be covered but if you trip and fall in the drink its there problem like i say health and safety is spoiling everything from fishing to work and then it gets back to cost for them to make that place safe would be millions plus they would then have to make the places that back onto it i.e the tanks the docks secure and any damage done by people fishing makes the council liable so best way is just to go on when no one is looking![]()
They already pay security wages without getting any revenue from anglers, as for liability all they need to do is get anglers to sign a disclaimer and they then don't need insurance, and if they sold 2000 passes at £100 each they would make 200,000 a year, as for the stealing, that's all done by those who work there, if I'm carrying a rod, rod stand, bait bucket and a tackle box I wouldn't be able to carry anything I wanted to stealNow, the no railings bit, did you read what I said about Seaham pier ? that's got no railings either but Seaham sea angling club members get a key for the lock to the pier, so where does your argument hold any water here ? there is a darker reason they don't want anyone on there and I think the OP has hit the nail on the head with the sewerage works.
i dont know what any of you other guys think about this place but in my eyes theres some thing going on down there !!! I have fished this place for a number of years now and year by year the problem just gets worse and worse.
The amount of what i would call raw sewage ie tampons, pads baby wipes ect is now becoming beyond a joke.
Why have sunderland council gone to such great depths to keep the anglers away from what was one of the best fishing areas around and still is.
I notice there is an article in this months sea angler and a number to contact. Please give him a call if you feel the same to raise your concerns.

who there going to sell 2000 passes to? you wouldnt get 2000 people paying 100 pound no way and the council dont have security there its the chemical plant you even been down there>?? and its not fishermen who woukd be pinching i know alot of people who would buy a pass and then use it as a excuse to look about its got nothing to do with sewage at all you really think that all the eco warriors wouldnt know and the people who go around testing the water content and so on wouldn pick up on it?its the fact its dangerous its as simple as that my mate got fined from there last year its for trespassing and if your caught again you will get done under the terrisom act
I fished down there 4 or 5 nights a week over 20 years, so I'll bet I know more about the place than you, I also know most of the lads that fished the docks very well and every single one of them will tell you that the port authority (not the council it's go nothing to do with them) have an ulterior motive for not wanting anglers down there and it's got absolutely nothing to do with terrorism, although that is a handy excuse for them to use at the moment, you see, terrorism wasn't mentioned when the IRA were about, it's only now, with this Muslim thing going on, and you keep going on about it being dangerous, well it's no more dangerous than Seaham pier and people have hey given to them to fish there so that part of your argument is blown out of the water, it would be very easy for the security that is already there to make sure cars and people were not parking where they shouldn't be, when you get your pass you'd be vetted like you were when you used to get the old south pier pass, and they've already made it near impossible to get on there now so the main gate would be the only place to get in, and unless they are blind, they can see who you are and if you have your pass you'll be an angler not a terrorist (unless you have a beard and a suntan) And if they thought the sea was too rough they can say sorry lads not tonight it's too rough, It wouldn't take much for them to make a small car park near the north eastern beach for anglers, they've pulled all the sheds down at that spot, so they can even see from the gatehouse what is going on there, and if YOU had ever fished the place regularly you would know exactly what I'm talking about.
i fish it very regular down nearly every day summer and winter do you really think in this climate they will spend alot of money on making that place safe? its next to a chemical plant what bit of that is like seaham pier? they have to take into consideration the safety of the fishermen and then the work force of the other places all this is hyperthetical as it will never happen and terrorists was mentioned during the IRA time as thats what first kicked it of so back to costs you will need 24 hour gaurds so 24 hrs x 7 = 168 man hours per week at a average of 7 pound a hour is £1176 x by 365 =£42924 and thats the minimym it will be more over time for weekends holidays and so on. a car park £20 grand approx extra cameras, extra lights a phone line to police as a security company cant use mobiles to contact police in emergency then you would need extra fencing for the surrounding buisnesses holes filled in on the lane as they cant have them there if there openning it and then maintance of the place cleaning and structural
why not try ANOTHER mark?
.Where do you get these figures from ??? they already pay security staff wages, and they already have security cameras everywhere and they already have new fencing with razor wire everywhere, and they already have patrols all the time, a mate of mine was stopped by a patrolling guard just the other night trying to gain access, there are no holes on the lane, pensioners or the mixer, the low drum and spikey island can easily be fenced off as can the high drum, and did you know that the fences and wall put up around the lane and pensioners by the port authority are not on port authority land ? they should have been built 10 feet further back, I don't think your argument has much substance, you keep going on about safety but that is far from the issue.
.
This is my point lads over the years av seen alot and herd alot my dads fished down there for 45 years and only the past year we have not ! The fence is not on there property and also at one time there was puplic access down there ? Plus let's just say sumit here you can not get prosecuted for trespassing !!!!!!! Unless you are cought stealing causing damage orrr it's milerterry ground do all these people that are getting fined are pleading guilty by post !!! Court they just through it out the lane gryon and back of tanks and every where els downbeat there is not there property so why are they protecting it ???????[/QUOT
you can get charged for trespassing as there is no public access you have to cross someones land to get to it thats how they fine you mate
Well boys,me and agent skullduggery went round there the other night, landing
our camo'd up kayak in Bartrams bay.We crawled up to the rocks at the back,
amazed at the amount of activity taking place. If you think it's about sewage,
you could'nt be more wrong,that is just a diversion.What's happening down there is big,and i mean BIG.There are lights everywhere,huge trucks,cranes,
and military vehicles, yes, the place is crawling with military personnel, heavily
armed, some in those white asbestos coveralls with masks, running around the
big building at the back.I got my field glasses out for a closer look, zooming
in on four blokes pushing one of those wheeled stretchers towards a truck. At
first glance,i thought what they had strapped down on it,was something out
of camrex house,it was in that much of a state, but then i saw the hands
with three digits and trumpet like ends...ALIENS..no ****,we realised what
would happen if we were seen,so we crept back down to the waters edge,
and got out of there fast.A wise man would stop asking questions about that
place, and give it a wide berth, sometimes it's just better not to know![]()
