Fishing in Bamburgh

Hi all, I'm off to Bamburough next week for a nice long break, I plan on taking a rod and reel and try to catch something.

I would love some tips on where to try as well as what to try such as bait, spinners, floats etc.

I'm quite a noob so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

any of the sandy beaches around the castle will fish for Flounder and maybe Turbot on Mackerel baits .... two hook flapper rig with a plain lead cast 30 - 50 yards and let it move around with the tide ...

Never fished Bamburgh before I think its all clean beach, but if you search the forums for Seahouses which is a short distance south down the beach (walkable for me if theres a pint at the end of it in The Ship).

Marks and methods are plentiful, bait & spinning.
You have access to beach, rocks and pier.

Thanks for the replies gents, I will probobly only have room for a small rod so no chance of fishing from the beach.

Is it worth fishing from the rocks with spinners or using a floated bait?

Again please forgive my noobness! (I'm a Carp fisherman)

You could always a 3lb test curve carp rod with braid to fish the beach with.if your only going to get flatties this should be fine. Just use 1/0 hooks and a 2-3oz weight . If you need a sand spike to put your rod in I could lend you one.

Thanks mate, good idea on using some of my carp gear. I already have a few reels with braid loaded on and a few 3lb test curve rods.


I might give the beach a go. I'm getting to the holiday cottage next Friday so if youre about and see someone doing everything wrong on the beach it's probobly me

Good luck mate . Fishing is fishing no matter if it is beach fishing or carp fishing the casting part is just the same just less fish.lol. I think you will surprise your self and you can eat what you catch.

Right, I've been in the garage and found some stuff that I don't mind getting beaten up when I cram it in the car.

I have a 4lb test curve 12 foot carp rod (Spod rod) and a big pit reel (Diawa Emblem X)


I guess they should be ok for getting some beach fishing in?


If I try the beech what bait should I be using?

Don't throw far, start 20-30 yards out and then alter distance depending on your luck. Flappers with size 1 or 2 hooks. Longish flowing snooods with ragworm, fish strip or sandeel should be fine.

Never fished Bamburgh but that will suit most of the beaches up the coast. Good luck

Thanks for the advice, can't wait now If anyone is up that way look out for me, i'll be in my carp bivvy, in my bed chair watching TV and 4 rods out with bite alarms ready

Jimmy, it's a different game mate, you might find a total hooligan coming at yer and yer bite detectors will be going left, right and centre, couple that with trying to hang on to yer bivvy, no reception on the tv etc, dogs going passed yer and trying to pis* on yer gear etc, etc

Can anyone advice what I should use please? Seen some of these Savage Gear jelly lures and they look quiet interesting.

Can anyone recommend a specific type of lure please?

Sorry to ask again for an answer guys but time is running out for me to get the stuff from the tackle shop as I'm heading up North first thing Friday.

Try sidewinders for pollock and bass. Then any spinners up to 40g for everything else. You can use the same rod and reel as your using on the beach. 4lb test curve plus reel with braid. Good luck hope you have a great time.

Had some luck last October with a No3 mepps on a 3ft trace and a bullet lead, works for flatties as well. Try a storm shad or sidewinder as mentioned. tides should be strong enough too. Fish out 30 yards and let the tide run bring the bait round.
