Fishing on a sunny afternoon. 24/3/11

Walked the dog down to c/coats beach about 10-30 this morning and was greeted by a lovely flat calm sea. There was someone launching their boat, off fishing, and it all came a bit too much for me. By now, me little pooch realising his walk was gonna get cut short did his P, and crap in record time so i could get home and ready the boat for another quick session, that's 3 in a row. So, at a fast pace, i was home and wheeling Lazy Daze out again, hoping for a better catch than yesterday. Out to the same wreck, but this time the tide was a lot slower with only 1hr of the ebb left, and the sounder showing lots of fish above and around the wreck.
Straight away was into a good size pout, followed by another. Then a codling around 3lb then another. Being anchored both rods were banging away which resulted in loosing a few in the wreck. Must have lost a dozen or more hooks, some with fish on, it was quite hectic. Ended up with 7 codling to 4lb, and 8 pouting of a good size, with as many returned. Ran out of bait by 3-30pm, so headed home. Really enjoyed it.

Well done again Arthur. This is food for thought for next season early on before the fish show on the ground. What depth of water do you find do-able or the best regarding anchoring? Just for pin pointing a few wrecks out of Amble for next year or for Micky to try on when I am away this time!

I use one of those miniture tripod camera stands with blue-tac on the legs to stick it on the cabin roof, then set the self timer. Bit of a slaver though.

The wreck i fish the most is in 95ft of water at low tide Graham.

Nice one, i never use the anchor as always get the bloody thing stuck and spend ages trying to get it out..wont leave it with a cost of around £100 lol

I can understand you not wanting to risk an expensive anchor Richy, but I make my own with round mild steel, and they just bent out using the outboard. mind, they're poor on sand with very little grip, but like Sean say's, trip a good anchor and most times you'll get it back.
The tides will be a lot better for wrecking this weekend, so if the winds ar light, worth a go.

Last tiem i used my anchor was at the air show and after about 15mins of pulling the hell out of it i gunned the boat and pulled a rock up the size of a football

Going to give this weekend a miss but will be out one day next weekend if i can get some crew.

Good to see your into fish again, i think i may have to weld a cheap anchor up myself

Mabe thats why I lost so many traces, but there was another dahn about 400yds away, whether it's nets or a string of pot, not sure. It didn't spoil the enjoyment though Chris.

rich you should get a couple of sacrificial anchors made up,generally out of reinforcing bar for concrete,im a blind b---er,missed the fact that you goin to make one yourself.i plead senility in my defence

Yeh Norman, the retirement lets you pick and choose but, my backs breaking hauling the thing in an out the drive, and on and off the beach. 64 today and can't see it getting any easier Shame about the weekend but i think Sunday goes back to light westerly, just in time for next week
