if anyone is fishing south shields pier to night can you keep an eye out for my cm crest with penn mag 525 on it as it was draged in by a jet skier off harbor side of pier the tw-t come rite in to the side of the pier as l went to get another trace it happened that fast that l could do nothing about it went down to grab them at little haven but could not prove witch one did it l was gonna smack them one but there was kids with them l dont know how the law stands for us fisherman but as in the past when this has happened to other anglers nowt can be done just cant aford to fork out £500 so down one rod and reel its heart breaking as l love that rod so back to my shadow:mad::mad:

where probably all guilty of not having any type of insurance on our gear and if you were to tot it up how much it would cost to replace i bet many of us would get a shock.

good luck i fish tynemouth pier with a club and sometimes they fly round the corner near the lighthouse never seen anyones gear go in but its only a matter of time it ****es me off when theres all of the river to play in and they come close in same as the kayaks they do the same they would think twice if one of them gets hit in the head with a 6oz spider

he was about 20 yards of the small wall he seen it go in he could of turned back and picked it up but sped off he new what he done bob one of the lads seen him shoot in relised what he done and just dun off bob shouted for me but it happened that fast

One of Tynemouth Club members had a similar thing happen to him while fishing a match on Tynemouth pier. Fishing at the four posts the safety boat for the sailing club launched his rod & reel on to the rocks and into sea. Luckily he made an insurance claim against the sailing club and got his money.

jet skies.

jet skies.

Everyone has the right to enjoy there water sports,be it fishing, boating, sailing and jet skiers.
But I find the jet skiers seem at times to be irresponsible in there enjoyment of there sport.
I speak from a incident that happened to me a couple of years ago,I had my boat moored in Sunderland Marina and on this lovely Sunday morning I planned a sail up the wear to the a19 bridge.
Set off 3 hrs before hw with tide and light winds taking me and Susken up the river, this was my first trip up and it was very enjoyable seeing the wildlife and greenery once passed the wearmouth bridge it became very peaceful only a few people walking the banks and a few anglers fishing.
I got up to the a19 about hw and did a turn to come back down on the ebb tide,I moved over to port side of river but couldn't go to close due to my 6ft draft,I noticed a fast moving jet skier with two people on board as they got along side me he did a 180 turn very fast towards me I think with the intent to give me a good wet spraying, but the skier started to skid across the tide and rammed me side on.
On the jet skier was a young kid on the back and as they bounced off my hull
the kid nearly fell off but he was definitely hurt as I could hear him crying as
the driver sped away.
I was also concerned for my boat because of the impact but at 6tons and heavily built I had no worries.

On returning to the marina I reported this to the marina staff which in turn reported this to the wear harbour control, but the problem is these jet skiers have no identification numbers shown on there hull so I could only give colours red, blue and white.....have you seen any with these colours maybe with a bit of yellow as well. :)
To sum up I would say jet skiers must show large numbers on there hull and this should be enforced by the river authority and I would also like to see some rya 1st line training and insurance being compulsory for these crafts.

If this was the case you could have went to the skiers and claimed your rod loss on his insurance and in my case and damage to my boat.
cheers H

Jet skeirs

Jet skeirs

Yes good point mate, that I never thought about...............is there any jet skiers on this forum ? I'm not wanting to have a go ....but what is your thoughts because I might be incorrect in assuming they don't have insurance.
Always two sides to this I would like to hear yours.
Cheers H

Me and my mate fished the groyne think i have spelt it right lol any way the other Sunday and there was sailing boats and jet skis bombing about all over the place and they come in very close to the groyne but when they see ya they move out a bit well this big fat pudding thought he was great in front of his mates and he said f*** them watch this luckily we heard him and drop our rods down or both of our rods would of went in and him and his mate thought it was funny i would love to get me hands on him and stick his jet ski up his a*** but not all the lads with jet skis are like this its just the minority that gives them a bad name just like the plums that leave litter about gives us anglers a bad name.

If any prat on a jet ski wants to play and tries to pull my gear in then they are fair game for a lead thrown at them. If they don't want that to happen go play somewhere else.
I would not turn up and cast into an area they are doing whatever **** they do so it works both ways.:)
I agree its only a few but they are the ones that stand out

i fished the groyne last sunday aswell and nearly lost my rod to the sailing boats i seen them all coming in and they all missed my line then there were 2 more a cany way out so i started messing about in my box then turned round there was a catermarang coming in about 15-20 yard off the groyne luckyily i seen it my line got stuck in the middle of the 2 parts of it, had a good battle trying to reel him in but it just slowed him down lol he tryed getting the line out by reversing but i was stuck on something on his boat, dont no why he couldnt just go another 20 yards out i had bright yellow line he must of seen it. when i go practice casting on the beach i always watch out for them but it doesnt seem like they care about us or our fishing gear, worst thing was i just filled my reel up before i went with new line only had 2 chucks got a half kilo spool of ultima distance here and its only give me bad luck lol
