hi lads i'm looking to purchase a new rod for the beach to go with my new 7ht mag reel, any suggestions.cheers.i'd pay up to £250.

Where are you going to be fishing?

With a 7HT Mag I'd guess mainly clean ground? For that money you could pick up a very good rod 2nd hand, if you are patient maybe a ZZiplex Primo Synchro, I know a month ago Martin Watson was moving on an HSM but that might be a bit too dear. M4 is another excellent rod.

From Century I rate the TTLD as possibly the best clean to mixed rod out there, love mine to bits. Something with a little more grunt would be the Tip Tornado Supermatch. Lots rate the C3LD but the bite detection is pants and it is a bit overgunned for clean beach work IMHO.

I've heard very good things about the AFAW Tournament Match - will put a lead a long way and retains good bite detection.

Loads of good rods out there to be picked up for that price it all depends on what you want it for.

shakespeare in2...just kidding ......depends really what u want it for and how u cast .....its a minefield out there ...i almost ended not buying squat for being fickle minded .....got myself a tip tornado and am quite happy with it at the moment ....unless u looking for second hand gear .....for 250 i dare the world is ur scallop....for 400 quid the world is ur oyster .....:p

If your gonna spend £250 you've got to be looking at a new rod I would say. I'd look at the century range, there's a canny few for around that price that are top end beach rods, pier rods, rough ground rods and whatever else. I'm a bit bias though because I use a century but I find it a pleasure to use and the aftersale sevice is spot on. Just my opinion like.

i have a reelsport responce mate great rod i also have a old zziplex and a nemisis plus all good rods but i would say take your money to a tackle shop and see what feels right to you and see if you can get a deal of someone in tackle shop ,hope this helps

The Sonik4 14ft is a good rod for the money - As you can see the response from your question is varied, and it is all very sound advice - end of the day its down to personal preferance. Hope whatever you decide on does the buisness for you.

dont ask why ...i read some where if the rod is going to be longer than 13ft u want the reel in low position. i do believe the platinum works best with the reel down as u would need to compress it well and as far as i know its quite a powerful fast action ...i think if u fishing reel up with a ht you might want something 13ft or less perhaps ??? u can daiwa top end rods for that money i would have thought ....well like i says it a freakin minefield... good luck bud....bear in mind if its clean ground ur fishing ( where do u get this clean ground in the north east ....lol) and if u want to fish reel up ...u prob dont want anything to stiff imho ...and the length i`d say u may want to consider the fox matrix at the lengths u desire .....i know a guy who actually uses the ht with fox rods and he rates it more that the eliminator e1000

Think i also read that the tip section has a fibre glass end to make them more powerful. I'm not 100% on this so might be wrong like.

someon i know is thinking of selling the kompressor ss ....think its 13 6 tho around the 200 mark

Komp SS is an out and out rough ground rod, way too much rod for clean beach work. First rod out of the bag for me on clean beaches is my TTLD - slim, light, casts like a dream, excellent bite detection and loads of feel. Only 13' but I cast reel down and it is lovely to use like this.

zziplex profile evo/tt ultra lite/ ttld/ zziplex 4500/
ian golds rods just too many to go at for money mentioned.
