fixed spool for beach/rock fishing

anyone recommend a good fixed spool to use with 65lb braid off the rocks -beach ect.it will be used with a 13/14 ft beach rod.only used multi,s so not a clue about big fixed spools other than carp reels ive used

Any particular reason it has to be a fixed spool Peter? I've got 66lb Power Pro on my Saltist 20 for longer distance rough-ish work and 100lb braid on a 535 for closer range heavy duty work (up to 60 odd yards).

As long as the braid is round profile it handles almost exactly the same as mono, the Saltist 20 casts like a dream as the power pro is the same diameter as 15lb mono.

I use an 80lb mono leader with the power pro, bimini twist and a yucatan knot to join and it almost always pulls out of a snag rather than snapping. The 100lb braid I fish straight through, no need for a leader with this set up if you're not swinging the lead, just OHTing

Cheers mate i want to try braid out on a multi do you need to make the reel run slower than you would with mono? And use the same amount of shocker?

Like everything braid has pros and cons. The cons are it has no stretch so if the sea is away the rod tip bounces around like mad, also if you get a decent fish on you can't just bully it in as you risk riving the hook out.

The pros are no stretch means superb bite detection and you can feel every nod and shake of the head as you pull a fish in. It also has excellent strength to diameter ratio - as said I use 66lb power pro which is .36mm diameter so only slightly more than standard 15lb mono.

It's not necesarily about running the reels slower, just running them safe for fishing. A big birdie with braid is expensive to cut out and will ruin your trip. It's all down to your casting really; I run all my reels safe anyway and rely on technique for distance if I need it; if you have a decent casting technique then it really shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you use round profile braid, don't get greedy with the diameter (personally I wouldn't go lower than .28mm diameter) and don't get any loose coils as you reel in. Otherwise treat it just like you would mono.

I wouldn't bother with a penn surfblaster 8000. I bought one 4 weeks ago, used it 3 times and it seized solid yesterday. Gonna try and take it back today and get something else but doubt ill have much luck.

On the mono spool I have 65Lb Berkley crystal for Rock work with 80lb rubbing leader.
On braid spool, 25lb Berkely crystal, 50lb shook for beach
both fly out like no ones business

Since I've started using braid I've enjoyed my fishing a lot more with it being so direct but it does take some getting used to and it's not everyones cup of tea. I will say that I have lost much less terminal gear, especially when fishing the tyne as most snags in there are old mono so you tend to just pull out of it although you might sacrifice a hook in the process. I don't use a leader when fishing the river with 66lb power pro but do attach a 100lb braid leader, just the cheap Chinese stuff when fishing heavy ground. And as already said I find the shimano navi more than capable with plenty of grunt.
