Fixed Spools?

Does anyone out there use "heavy duty" fixed spools for boat fishing?

Maybe a big surfcasting Shimano type reel?...

As opposed to loading it with 350yds of 15lb mono - you could prob load it quite easily with the requisite amount of braid...

what do you reckon? crazy talk?:o ;)

you could use any sort of reel on a boat, watch rex hunt they use tiny fix spool reels for massive fish, it would be no diff here, just depends on if you like to use a fix spool or not and the type of fishing your doing, ive used fix spools on boats before just set the drag correct so you can play the fish instead of just howking it in in a big multiplier :)

Last time i was out on Maggie May i saw an experienced lad using a good fixed spool. When he caught a fish the rod did the work rather than the reel. He pumped the fish to the surface. Seemed very effective but not my cup of tea.

Mick.
