what are the name of the weights that came out a few years back

they were flat wider at the bottom tapering to the top with grip wires

I think you are talking about the HQI mould, they are a double mould doing both 5 and six oz's. I think it was called the HQI revolution mould.

the mould your after is revolution flat mould. But i beleave they have gone out of business i got a mould off them about 3years ago and when i was talking to the lad he said they only made the one batch of moulds. I have still got my mould and still use the weights for fishing in rocks.I will put a photo up tomorrow of the weights.

I wouldn't pay for a mould to make that to be honest.
We used to use old spoons to make weights when i was a kid and then moved on to just using half a normal mould and semi-filling it or even cheaper is just filling a cut-in-half length of pipe and then cutting it down (length) to size then drilling the leads is dead easy. Don't normally want grips on a flat lead as they're usually used in lighter currents to take-away the need for grips. If you're close-in fishing then you'll probably be better with drilled-ball weights anyhow that move in the swell.

One thing though, if you use this kind of thing, it has a habbit of spinning in the water as you retrieve, feels like you're pulling something in when you're not and also twists up your line if you're not using a swivel.

Old spoons to make sinkers lol, that brings back some memories, we also used to poke a hole in a bucket of sand and use the hole as a mould. Watch leads are handy for fishing the rocks but pricey if you dont make your own.

These weights are excellent, with them being flat they come straight off the bottom and rise quicker to the surface. I fished two rods one night at Tynemouth and lost just one rig all night, rare for there lol. Never had any problem with them spinning either Lee, they just came straight in mate. I never tried fishing with them in a big sea on the beach but tried them when ordinary weights had no chance of staying out and they always held ok, even without grippers.
