Flying Leads!!

Just been reading about some lunatic who frequents Saltburn Pier and insists on pendulum casting when anglers are packed shoulder to shoulder !!!

If my memory serves me right, I\'m sure a yound lad/chap was fatally hurt in an incident on South Shields pier years ago. Somebody cracked a lead off and it hit the lad on the temple. :(

Has anybody come across such a lunatic? Surely collective action by all anglers involved in the situation is required to \"pendulum cast\" the culprit off the bleeding pier before someone gets seriously hurt?! This particular individual is obviously devoid of any common sense!

chuck him over the side but make sure he lands so he doesn\'t hurt himself.................on his head would seem to be the safest bet

Sorry to say I\'m the pendulum caster on the board (not on Saltburn pier I hasten to add !!) Probably why you find me up a corner somewhere and nowhere near anyone else lol. Can\'t remember the last time I fished on a pier.

Nowt wrong with pendulum casting David, I\'m learning myself, but as you rightly infer, a time and a place!

I\'ll be in touch re. your book David.

Cheers Derek

me too stores but only rarely in the north east and never in a crowd, there are much safer options that get within 20yds of a pendulum once you bring bait into the equation.

where did you read this as i fish salty pier very regularly?

i remember about 18 yr ago this also happened on the pier while we were fishing a saltburn comp, except this lads lead didnt come off, he slipped and the lead imbedded itself in the lads side :(

Derek

i\'ve seen the pen cast done a few times on the pier, but tbh its been very quiet with only a few on fishing ,(earlys hrs mainly as those with more sense are in bed) is there a description of this said lad who does the pen cast in the report you\'ve read ?

It\'s not just others who are in danger. 20 odd years ago I was fishing on Tynemouth pier (naughty) and casting on the seaward side by the seat three parts along (mark SEAT). In order to cast with the scarboro I have to stand on the wall not the pier. Casting out the lot snapped off. How I didn\'t throw myself over the edge I don\'t know. Found the sinker about 100 yards up the pier. No-one else fishing and no harm done. Go back another 10 years and there\'d be 100 blokes fishing the Tynemouth Xmas Fair and most would be using scarboros. Imagine that lol

oops I\'ve just remembered the last time I was on the pier lol

Hey, enough. I\'ve had that since I was 14 (except when I shaved it off for yous lot) Anyway it was too far to walk when I was a bairn...
.... hence I never got further than the Barge Bottom one way and the Goatsies the other

Hey David ,we fished the goatsies last season ,any tips mate ,we fished it over high water from the prom. (easy option ) then went to the Qheens Head while the tide dropped and night fell before we headed to Whitley.
.

STEVE,
Methinks you would have more chance catching something in the Queens than in the Goatsies at high water haha. There always seems to be some oddbods in there. To be honest the whole north side of Cullercoats is so hot and cold as to be, and I hate to say this, not worth it. I\'ve caught some good fish in the Goatsies and we all know of 20lbers coming out of the Warriors, just north, but, to me, they are so hard to predict and it\'ll be one or two tides and that\'s the end of them. Alan is the real expert (not in the Queens I suspect). It\'ll be interesting to hear what he thinks.

Sless - you\'ll get a slap next time I see you (from Rod lol)

Agree with Stores about Goatsies Steve,i have had some lovely fish out over the years but you have to put the hours in for certain. Not somewhere i would fish over high water mind.
