food for thought

I learned from joining Sunderland SAA in about 1980-81. At the same time, I used to go to Jack Meltons angling classes on a Saturday morning. He taught me all sorts, including how to shell mussel properly and what to use (if anyone ever seen Jack shell Mussel, you'll know how good he was) and above all, the rig I still use to this day with great success to fish the roundhead of Roker pier.

Joining the club was invaluable though as its a mine of information. The one thing I learnt though, as a spotty 15-16 year old is manners and respect. If you talk to the experienced anglers properly, they'd tell you just about anything, and I hope I still talk to people these days in the same manner.

What boils my p***, and its happened to me a couple of times on here, is the total lack of manners on asking for information, getting PMs along the lines of 'where did you fish'. No please, thanks or nothing. I've got no time for people like that.
A few lads on this forum have helped me with marks and bait beds which I can't thank them enough for, and I hope I've helped some lads in return with some marks in Scotland. This is a great Forum, its just unfortunate that you get the 'quick fix' anglers on it, lads who want the information now and every bit of information instead of doing what we used to do, go fishing and find out for yourself.

Totally agree. I once gave someone some gear and they took it without so much as a cheers mate. F***n ignorance and bad manners.

I can see were people are coming from to me theres no need to ask whats high or low tide on Monday or whats the wind ect as the internet tells you all you need to know . but if you put a report up saying I got this fish and that fish from seahouses I can not see the harm in people asking what bait or high or low water . ive got 30 years off fishing under my belt ill help anyone if I can if there ask I must add I am on pro just love fishing

This is a good point youve made topbanana.ive seen quite a few lads get slaughtered on here recently for asking what i thought were genuine questions.Im a mechanic for a living and when i get a customer ask me a simple question eg.... how do i check my oil? i dont stand and ridicule them or chestise them for not knowing,i help them by showing them.same applys to fishing. What might seem simple to us who have done sea fishing all our lives eg... tide times, weather, bait, local marks might seem odd to folk just starting out.If you look back at my catch reports i never put photos on,this is because im crap on computers.other people find it easy. :):)

Post a question asking how to put up photos. you will eother get the answer, or get slaughtered! :):)

Why you packed the sea fishing in for have all those salmon n sea trout toook the shine of it, suppose whities n cod are abit dull compared to those beasts.:)

I like to catch fish that fight back and can,t stand the fekking cold now.
And with the ammount of Cod about now its now worth the effort.
5 or 6 fish in 6 hours is classed as a good sesh now, used to get that many or more in an hour on the Lane in the right conditions.

I understand what your sating mate and I do also like to help others out when I can but some questions are a bit silly.

just wondering if anyone knows if the cod will be out ?

Will there be a sea before Saturday?
Sometimes if people do a bit if homework they won't need to ask such questions and receive "ridiculed" replies

dose this apply to getting bait ie crab

putting in the home work is not just about fishing marks and where is fishing. its about putting the time and effete in to get your bait to go fishing and not just asking ppl for it . ok

Some people don't drive and can't collect bait from coast sometimes people can't get bait from tackle shops if they don't book it in. I couldn't get crab from shop so I posted on here. Simples

Don't worry mate I wouldn't want any more crab from you !!

Just about anybody these days can check tide/weather times not everybody can get down the coast even for an hour to collect a couple of crab to go back down the next day and use the. So no not really a fair comment about homework is it.

Phil you don't need his crab

Tide times and weather crop up as topics on here all the time. We could do with a sticky in sea state with the best websites and mobile apps in there to direct questions to. Thats my two penneth
